WHAT IS IT? removing inlet manifold

Postby cravenbiker » Thu May 13, 2010 7:06 pm

Hi All

Removin inlet manifold on a 1998 2.0 petrol transit. got 5 Bolts out and cant find the last one, that isnt really the problem though. to take the manifold off there is a metal thing that runs the length of the engine parallel to the spark plugs, i think this is what feeds the cylinders with petrol but i dont know the name of it

there are 4 plug looking things (not spark plugs) that come out when unbolted but i cant manage to get the actual metal rail thing off. I have unbolted it from both ends and cant se any other attachment to the engine.

do i have to use a bit of brute force on these or is there something else i have to do??

Sorry but i cant take any pics as my phone is playing up

Many Thanks

I guess you are looking at the fuel rail and the injectors...

your right! Thanks for your replies

I managed to thet the rail off in the end, there was 1 bolt that was caked with muck that i couldnt see.
after i removed it i could see that it would come off with the manifold if i had left it but i think it made i a biteasier to get manifold out with the rail off. live n learn dont ya?

anyway, i wanted to get the manifold out complately to inspect it properly to see if it is actually cracked somewhere or the gasket at the thermostat end is just knackered (thats where all the rusty couloured residue has built up) but there is one small pipe that is attached to the manifold with a rubber sealer at the manifold end and another going into this metal disc thing (looks like a flying saucer standing on its side and when i pull this apart slowly i can her gas leaking out of it so sh**myself and put it back in! Is this something to do with power steering as it had a resevoir piped into it?
is it safe to disconnect this?
Im guessing its some sort of hydraulic air storage or something like that ? NOOB!!

Sounds like an EGR valve from the description - but no idea why there would be any compressed gas there :?

Not likely to be a vacuum reservoir is it ? and it was air leaking in, not gas leaking out.
I got a little black book with me poems in
