Postby Jon Boy UK - Wales » Wed May 19, 2010 6:22 pm

Hello All,

I have had the centre bearing/bush on prop finally renewed at last as it was very worn (alot of momevent).
What a difference to the noise level etc etc...Joy!

Now what job would you recommend i get sorted next.....

Steering Department...
1)Both rack boots split and twisted
2)O/S Arm bent

Driveshaft department...
1)Both front wheel bearings

Front Suspension department...
1)Both ball joints

Kindest Regards,
John

Wheel bearings and ball joints if they need doing would be first on the list.

Hello,
Many thanks for your reply...

Due to my budget ( wife controlled ) i can only only have the mechanical things done to my waggon a bit at a time..
As i have to get everthing done by a garage as i'm not the best with a set of spanners etc in my hand.

I have the Transit Mk5 SWB - Hi-roof version... i would like it resprayed !

I live in cwmbran near newport south wales does anyone know where i can get the waggon resprayed to?. I have been to one place and they can only fit a sandard low roof tranny in.

Kindest Regards,

John

Not being funny but if you can't afford to get the important bits done(ball joints and wheel bearings) then how are you going to pay for a respray? (£1000-£2000)

Hello,
I just paid £165.00 inclusive for my center bearing/bush to be fixed/renewed in ford's.

Wasnt expecting it to be anywhere near the £1000 pound mark for a quick blow job / flash over ...lol ! ...
if that's the case then i'll paint it by hand with a tin of gloss for metal!

Kindest Regards,
John

If you do the prep work yourself, i.e rust treatment, sanding, filling, rubbing down etc you should be able to get a blow over for around £200 - £300. It's a pity your not up here as the bloke in the local bodyshop does it for £200 inc paint if you do the prep. 8)

For a full respray, with prep and looking mint then yes, you would be looking at around the £1500 mark but as i said if he does the prep work and just wants a good flash over to have the van looking right again then £200 and the bloke actually does do a good job and will advise on any dodgy prep work!
