02 duratec 2.4 wiring?

Postby Trev.C » Thu May 27, 2010 9:34 am

Hi all
New here got an 02 duratec 2.4 tranny, yesterday on starting a wire burnt out, next to the fuse box under the bonnet, there is a red battery terminal (the one you use to jump start) attached onto the main power lead is a single wire that goes into the bottom of the fuse box. it was that which burnt out and broke. whats it do??
The engine still starts when warm or cold & everything still works, My first thought was that wire was to do with the glow plugs but I still get the light on the dash for them, which goes of after 5sec or so & it starts as normal from cold.

Any idea's

Thanks in advance

hello mr newbie
its a fuseable link for the glow plugs , they usaly blow because u have fauulty glow plugs shorting to earth u cant buy a replacement link on its own it only comes with wiring loom mega bucks , you could replace all glow plugs & put a mega fuse in but be warned the plugs can seize in head & snap , but the van should start fine without them working they are there for emission control more than cold starting off

it wont fail emissions test , when u start vehicle from cold the plugs are still heating after its runing until the pre com chamber reach a desired temprature its there to help stop high emission control when vehicle is stone cold , i dowt from a visual point of veiw you will even notice , if you have probs starting in very cold weather & want to change them i have found getting engine nice & hot then remove inlet manifold & spary wd40 or the likes in the small well around the plugs does help a lot to getting them out you can normaly tell if there going to shear of or not hope this helps you a bit
