changing axel oil

Postby p.o.w van » Sat May 29, 2010 2:52 pm

i want to service me van which is a 1997 lwb 2.5 non-turbo,im happy with oil and filter, air filter, feul filter well see .

im also going to drain the gearbox and i also want to drain the the axel but i dont think theres a drain plug so how do i go about draining the oil ?

when ive dropped the engine oil i want to replace the sump gasket but fords want silly money for it,is there any cheaper ones available or is it best to get the gasket from fords ?

Many thanks

sump gasket is avaliable from any motor factor cheaper than ford.

To drain the axle oil you have to pull the diff out if its a 5 stud or pull the back cover off its a 6 stud

cheers mate,6 stud as in 6 wheel nuts if thats the case mines a 6 stud,so you just take the cover off the back of the axel i think i can manage that, will this require a replacment gasket.

G/box fill and drain 8mm allen key

Sump 13mm

Gearbox fill - 1/2 way between 3/8th and 1/2 inch sqaure. I have used a 3/8th drive ratchet with an extension bar

If the sump bolt has been overtightened it can be a bugger to get off (I have resorted to welding another nut to one in the past!) so try to find a 6 sided socket ;)
