Transit tapping top end????

Postby hawkit » Sun May 30, 2010 8:50 pm

Hi all just found this site i'm running 3x 2.4 duratorq t350 transits one of which is a jumbo.
Now the problem i appear to have is with my jumbo again its 125 motor that i bought a couple of year ago not long after that the engine started tapping loudly after much deliberation an conflict i chose to put a new engine in as i'm a courier i cover some miles so figured this was best.
New engine fitted 8 month down the line the turbo blew causing the same nasty tapping noise alass the engine was replaced under warranty and a new turbo fitted.
But now only 35000 mile down the road the new engine has started the same tapping noise for no reason but now out of warranty does anyone have any ideas?????
Sounds metalic obviously but like a tappet sort of thing HELP!!!!

Also have another t350 that won't start but done a mere 500000 mile so guessing an engine issue as had injection pump fitted, head recon but apparently down a little in presure cylinder one shame good van

Any advice welcome cheers thinking of taking engine manufacture to court as i rekon 35000 mile ain't really good enough from a new engine

a mere 500000 mile!!!!
Thats half a million miles! I have seen Mk 5's on less then that!
As for the tappety sound, have you had the lifters checked out as i am pretty sure they are hydraulic and have been known to stick unless serviced regularly. I know someone on here will know!

you need to take rocker cover off, check rocker bearings for play,no adjustment on these rockers as said they are hydraulic, check for loose bolts,(loose bolts indicate cracked camshaft carrier) take it your using correct genuine filters, and correct 5/30 semi synthetic oil.

prob cos if they want they can give a 50% discount on oil so if you get it, you get it at half the price.

Having worked in main dealers in the past the mark up they have on most fast moving service parts is high on some items like oil filters etc... it can be upto 70% nearly as good as the government mark up on fuel hahaha :D :D
