please help--engine wont start -- own fault

Postby windowman38 » Sun May 30, 2010 11:04 pm

hi all, i've been a twat. i own a ford transit 260 swb (2005). i was under bonnet checking water, oil, brake fluid levels etc when i noticed on the fuel filter it said drain water regularly. i fumbled around under fuel filter and began to unscrew valve, by the time i was able to reattach the bloody thing a lot of liquid had drained out. i removed the fuel filter and got the valve reattached and then reattached filter. when i started engine it ran for about 20 seconds and then cut out. now the engine wont start at all. i know ive been a twat but could someone please help. thanks in advance, tom

Take filter off again, fill to the top with diesel, refit and crank van till it starts, you may need to crack the nuts on the injectors to bleed them, if the battery goes flat get jumpleads, or charge it up, do not bump start it or you may be in even deeper trouble

Oh I remember this clearly, I did exactly the same.
As previously mentioned, fill the fuel filter with diesel (it wont fill right to the top so dont worry, it does fill pretty close though). Put it on slowly so you dont loose too much diesel as you put the filter back on. I`ve never had to bleed the injectors luckily.
