Brake problem

I was driving to London the other day and after about 35 miles i noticed a strong rubber smell. Pulled over and investigated and found that my passenger side front wheel was super hot, as if the brake was stuck on just a touch ,and gradually the small amount of friction had heated the whole wheel and disc etc up.

I remedied the problem by waiting for it to cool for 30 mins then tipping cold water over it, then finally spraying quarter of a can of WD40 on it.

Not the best technique i'm sure, but it got me home without the wheel heating up again at all.

The problem is now a permanent fixture on my van. Unless i spray WD40 on the disc before i go anywhere!!!

Any ideas what the problem is?

Brakes are not pulling to either side, brake pedal feels very stiff until WD40 is used, then it loosens up.

next time it locks up undo the flexi were it attaches to caliper if it squirts out then hose will be knackered inside holding pressure.
to double check its just flexi, get it to lock up again, and undo brake pipe were it attaches to master cylinder, it shouldnt have any pressure there.

I just read about a similar problem someone had and they reckon it may be the inside of the brake fluid pipes corroding due to moisture getting into the braking system.

The heat from the engine then heats up the corroding pipe and ultimately turns the braking system into a one way, or at least restricted flow system, thus locking the brake caliper on to the wheel just a little bit. This is why the wheel takes so long to heat up, because the heat has to be conducted down the brakign system before the problem occurs. Eventually the brakes stick on too much and the brakes and possibly the bearing get wasted.

I don't like the sound of this.

Normally because someone has crimped the flexi hose, solve by replacing it.
