The van is a mk4 but I replaced the engine last year with a 2.5 1990 low mileage engine,
The engine was mint starts like a dream even after standing for months,
Well the mot is due so I took it to my sons workshop,it was a ten mile drive,the temperature which has always read low started going pretty high.
I pulled over to find no water in the coolant system ,I let it cool and limped the remaining mile.
I refilled with water when the engine was cold,
Then we did the welding as usual ready for the mot, when I drove the van back to the storage yard,the water was ok,but there was no pressure at all in the header tank,my son said don't worry his transit loses water all the time.I think I am a bit old fashioned in that I would like to know were it went.
Being more pessimistic than optimistic I thought head gasket, water pump ,or stuck thermostat,
There is no steam out of exhaust ,no oil in water,engine sounds fine,
So my question would be if a transit was laid up for six months what problems would occur with the cooling system,
It was antifreezed and started every two months. Am I just being paranoid as my son says,[ He is the one who will keep driving his car till the engine flames obscure his vision]
