Help with Electric problems

Hi people,

I'm having some strange problems with my 1989 2.5d transit.

sometimes I turn the key, the battery and oil light's turn on as usual, but nothing works. start engine, light's...

I wait a few minutes, or I disconnect the battery and I connect it again. and everything is normal again.

And it happened once I took the key and the engine didn't stop. But it was electric related because after I stopped the engine the light's were as if the key was still turned.

Already dissembled where the key turns but nothing yet.

Does some had a problem like this or a electric wiring diagram so that I can check everything up?

I think I might have a short circuit somewhere. This is getting me crazy.

An Electric diagram would help me a lot, but I can't find any trough the internet.

sounds like back box on ign barrel. (ign switch..?? or start relay)

Have you checked the ingnition lead plug for burnt connectors etc. Id agree with Colin about the start relay too

Check earths,especially the one from battery to body (rear of headlight).
Look at ignition switch multiplug,known for melting.

Hi,

Today I've checked the wiring until I could.

I took apart the ignition lead, everything looked fine.

I saw some plugs disconnected being the fuse and relay box.

In the engine bay there's some mess around, some wirings touching the ground, etc...

I started to isolate the wires, and trying to figure out what is what. and for once she was alive, but after turn the engine of was all the same.

Lights, turning signals and wipers dead, start engine dead.

when I turn on the emergency lights(4 turning signals lights) when the key is off, the turning sign and the red button light on the dashboard stays always on.

Tomorrow I will check the earths, and the relays and take bigger wires for the multimeter and a mechanic friend of mine. and duck-tape

I need to solve this to go to the vehicle inspection until friday. wish me luck

And the problem was.... bad ground connection to the battery.

Everyday we learn something new.

Nice one mate, glad you fixed it. as a rule of thumb with electrics the more complex and weird the problem especially if its intermittent then the solution is usually simple.
