charging system

my 90 T 350 wouldent start so fitted new battery- no good
starter motor was us so put a new one on and she starts great but now the battery light is on all the time
i dont think i have connected starter wrong as it works ok
befor the starter was swopped there was a bit of smoke coming from the starter motor area when trying to start the engine
the alternator has been taken off and local firm says it is all ok
any ideas would be great

check the wiring from ignition switch to altenator if light is on , and altenator is charging you have a short circuit , suggest going into loom where smoke coming from , you will find your fault

if the alternator has been off it will be the three pin plug which plugs into the side of the alternator that has a poor connection. think its the middle pin what causes the problem and im sure it stops the battery from being charged! Give it a wiggle while somebody looks at the light to see if it goes out

Thanks you guys that problem is sorted- i got the wires onto the starter motor wrong. Its starting and charging ok now BUT-
sometimes when i go over a bump the engine dies and the glow plug light flashes, as soon as i switch ignition off and turn the key she will start up again ---- any ideas on this one please

Sounds like a wiring issue, check wiring to fuel pump for damage

if theres no obvious damage i would have the codes read and it should tell you if theres a wiring issue aswell. if you do need a loom i have one for sale if worst comes to worst but good luck
