Very Slow Transit

Postby MadFrank » Mon Jun 14, 2010 8:07 pm

Hi all I have a ford transit 90 spec lift C reg 1986 with a York engine with a 5 speed box I bought the old girl just to get me started moving a fue cars around ect

The problem I have is that she is just so slow it will do 68 on a flat but up hill
Struggles to get 19 mph and I have to keep changing the gears from 2nd to 3rd to get her up the hill

Also I have noticed that the engine is very high revving

Is this normal for a mk3 only ever owned a mk4 before but it was not this slow

Thanks all

Something wrong here :?
Unless someone's fitted an old York engine in place of a Di engine :?:

Post a pic up of your engine to confirm and or the injection pump

Well I'm pleased to see that it's not actually a York

Looks more like a 70PS Di with Lucas CAV pump :)

How about swapping the whole engine out for a Turbo Di

my old spec lift with the 70 ps lucas pump used to do 45mph with a mondeo on the back(was overweight on the back axle with that on it)but due to the gearing it would also only do 65mph on the flat without anything on it..swap the engine for a turbo engine with bosch manual pump and it will go very well even with a volvo 940 estate filled with scrap(expect very light steering with this)
