HELP!!!!

Postby adam the plumber » Wed Jun 16, 2010 9:06 pm

Hi
I bought a transit 2001 mk6 and noticed a leak which I thought was gearbox oil but on closer inspection turned out to be cooling fluid. Pipes had rotten so got them changed but the garage now tells me it needs a new solenoid on the fuel pump (£400 plus vat) which on inspection I can see diesel leaking from. Also sometimes when i put the van into 1st as i pull away it can jump out but only when pulling away no other time, it can also be a little tricky to go into 4th and the same with reverse as with 1st, any ideas? Also i noticed diesel around the plugs but I have cleaned this off and it does not seem to have reappeared but will check after driving tomorrow, Does this van sound like its going to cost a fortune to put straight? As far as I can tell the van runs lovley and is very clean and straight with 139000 miles on the clock and only those things above.

the gears can be fixed by adjusting/replacing the gear cables easily done by yourself in around 1/2 hour

Posted by nokites......
Raise and support the vehicle.
Remove the gearshift lever cover.
Shift the gearshift and selector levers into NEUTRAL
Using a suitable M10 x 30 mm bolt, lock the gearshift lever in NEUTRAL.

NOTE: The gearshift cables adjust automatically, when the retaining plates are released from the housings.

To adjust the gearshift cables.
Remove the clips.
Pull the retaining plates out of the housings.
Lock the gearshift cables.
Push the retaining plates fully inwards.
Install the clips.
Remove the bolt.
Install the gearshift lever cover.
Lower the vehicle.

Yep, FWD. What is it that goes on these solenoids that makes them leak? Has anyone had luck resealing them, also what should I look out for when replacing as it seems starting problems occur?
Anyone have a good workshop manual?
