Wheel Bearing Settings & Torque Advice

Postby Mauser » Wed Jun 28, 2006 8:34 pm

Could someone please let me know the size of the torque screws holding the hub on ?, I am replacing the wheel bearing but I need a long torque drive to undo and release the bearing, its the one for the 4 or 5 pins about 8mm in size ? have tried a 8 torque bit but this is to small, it fits but will slip under load.
Also what torque settings should I use for the wheel bearing and any others pins I tighten up.
I am changing discs and pads as well whilst I am @ it.
Thanks Simon

I have a 2001 "Y" Plate SWB 2.5 low roof but not sure if its turbo or not ?.
Very new to transits, first one so things are bigger than my Galaxy lol. Yes I do mean the torque star bits, need the size required to undo the little buggers and the correct settings to torque them back up if possible along with wheel bearing nut.
Thanks Simon

mate yours is probably 2.o or 2.4 is it the latest shape i.e mk6?? fwd or rwd??
You only need two tools in life: WD-40 and Duct Tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the duct tape.

your bearing kit will come with new bolts so you can get the size off them - most factors will have long pattern bits you can put in a ratchet for this - don't know the torques and I can't find my disc but tight for the bolts and very very tight for the hub nut

According to DVLA it was first registered 01-04-2001 and the engine is 2496cc and its FWD :), and yes the front looks like your picture. Just the turbo bit I am unsure of ?. If I know the torque size I can get 1 tomorrow but I cannot get the bearing till I know the spec on it ?, local spares shop didn't know the bearing sizes as I have a contact in the bearing service industry who can get 1 cheaper than the £20 I have been quoted.
Thanks for the info and hopefully you should be able to identify my vehicle.

if it's FWD the engine size is wrong on your log book it should be 1998cc - the bearing will be a bit dearer than £20 more like £85 it comes complete with the hub and the torx bolts are in the kit
