Thick greyish sludge in oil filler neck and cap

Postby colly 695 » Mon Jul 19, 2010 9:29 pm

Hi guys
My 96 100L has been sitting for the past few months, not used at all.
Come to use it today and i had a very hard job trying to get the oil cap off,it was glued on
When i finally got it off, inside the neck was this thick grey gunge, below this looks ok,its just the neck and the bottom of the cap.
To make matters worse there is water dripping off the cap if i shake it, the funny thing is the van has been out on the road today,up to normal temperature,no smoke frome the exhaust at all.
I know it might be the head gasket, but is there the chance that a good oil change and flush is all it needs,as it has been sitting for quite a while?

Any help welcomed

cheers Davie

Probably just condensation.

Agreed,

Condensation is common when engines are stood a while and or just used on short journeys where they don't get up to temp much.
