Push Rod problem on 97 P-Reg 80D SWB 2.5 Banana Engine non-t

Hello to everybody, just bought a Transit Van & this is my first post, hope I learn a lot from this forum & can contribute back.
I have a problem with my van, hence the post.

Easier to add picture off problem as well as explaining, as you will all see.

Instead of an adjusting bolt in the empty hole, there was a household bolt with 2 x nuts. It had jumped off Monday (Only found out as was making a huge banging noise from rocker cover so thought oil was not getting through & took it off) re-fitted it, or re-bodged it as many would say, but jumped off again today after about 2-3 hours use, but as can be seen in the picture the push rod is much lower, anyone any ideas? Help! Have I killed my engine?

I have no clue what to do now, thanks in advance.

take the rocker shaft off remove push rod,make sure its straight and measure against another one

Probably S shaped now, hence it seems lower

Do as dorisgirlracer says, you'll soon find out what's going on and this time, fit a new bolt or rocker (new ones come with a bolt ready ) and not too expensive

Hi Dorisgirlracer, thanks for the speedy reply & thanks to Andyg faster than I can reply lol.

Did not have to take shaft off to get push rod out, just removed bodged nuts & bolt, rocker arm moved back & rod removed no probs, Got a new rod from Fords & compared earlier today, they are the same lenght & old 1 not bent, just the bottom ball bit was a few mm shorther, would guess 3-5mm. When I pop the new rod in the hole it sits the same level?

Turn the engine over slowly, might just be how it's stopped

Turned van over slowly (without starting) and all rods move up & down except the low 1

Saves getting an 18mm socket onto the crankshaft

I am a newbie, I know the crankshaft is below the rods ect somewhere, so are you saying if I find the crankshaft 22mm nut/bolt, by turning this the engine will turn over manually (much safer) ?

Even easier to put it in 5th gear and push the van slowly

How much do you think it should cost to fix at a local garage?

If its a camfollower the 1st thing i would do is pull the sump off & have a really good look & make sure it has not damaged the block, if its ok you have got to have the front plate off to get the camshaft out & gain access, its quite a major job !
