6006e - Adapt Audio Wiring to take MP3 Player ?

Postby ChrisW6 » Thu Oct 14, 2010 5:42 pm

Hey Guys

From what I can see the 6006e Stereo does not have an "Aux In" socket for me to to plug in an MP3 player or anything similar.

However I'm wondering if I bought a 3.5mm jack to twin RCA cable, then chopped off the RCA's and spliced the cable into the speaker cables on the stereo's wiring loom. Would this give me clean audio from both the CD and the new add on the MP3 input (dependent on which was playing), or is the whole thing likely to go BANG ?

Is there an Audio Techie Genius out there, or has anybody done something similar ?

It's a long shot and maybe different to a standard ford cd player but does it have the socket on the back for a cd multichanger?
If it does then you can get a little black box of eBay that plugs into there and the cd player is fooled into thinking it has a multichanger connected. Not cheap at about £40 though.

Other and cheaper option is an fm transmitter with a 3.5mm jack on it. You can pick them up on eBay for less than a fiver. The sound isn't always great on the cheaper ones though.
I've got a belkin one in my mondeo and the sound is ace but then it wasn't cheap.

The one I have has the same connections as the one in this video.

Ahh yes I remember that FM transmitter now, so definitely going to look into the Belkin as a second option, just in case hard wiring is not possible.

Thanks for that

You'll need to go for an FM transmitter. They vary a lot in price depending on what you want. If you're wanting to use an iPod/iPhone then get a specific one for that (I have the belkin tunebase as I can use it as a handsfree for my iPhone and also plays my nano) if it's just a normal mp3 player you'll need something with a 3.5mm jack on it. There's loads of different shapes, sizes and colours so just take your pick really! And it's true that you get what you pay for, cheaper ones the sound isn't so great and fm reception can be a bit hit and miss.

Failing that rip the 6006 out (as it will break at some point and you'll have to take it apart to get your CDs out) and replace it with an aftermarket stereo with an aux in. Can get then fairly cheap £60 ish for a new stereo from Halfwits and maybe a tenner for iso wire connector and fascia panel.

Or take out the 6006 and replace it with a 6000 and then you can use the adaprter that plugs into the multichanger socket. Could sell the 6006 on eBay, working ones go for around £100!

I really wouldnt go splicing into the speaker cables as you have suggested this will cause a lot of issues. The easiest way to give an AUX connector is to buy a Connects2 adaptor (Ebay etc) that simply connects into the changer port on the rear of your unit. Your audio input then goes through the head unit via the cd changer port giving 100% quality audio.

The 6006 doesn't have the changer port on the back as it is an in-dash cd player. Which only leaves the 2 options of changing the stereo or using an fm transmitter
