p0167- anybody shed any light?

Postby Grenadekid » Fri Oct 29, 2010 1:38 am

Can anybody shed any light on this code, already done a search and its mentioned but nobody seems to know exactly what it is. Its the only code in dtc ,the van is down on power a bit and seems a bit thirsty on the fuel. i suspected there was no 02 sensors in the van so wondering whats at fault. Full fault code below

p0167 02 heater circuit bank2 sensor 3

any help much appreciated

Not a valid code for your engine. What are you using to read the codes?

im using the f-super m8 and was using the formidable program, i will try the ford program with it but i doubt it will be much different if it reads it. Its a 2000 2.0 tddi transit and it feels as if its not getting full power and a slight miss on start up . it seems to be more like a 75ps. Its lively enough on the 1st and 2nd but when in third, fourth and 5th it its lacking torque. Runs perfectly otherwise, i was thinking maf as its seems thirsty on fuel but i could be barking up the wrong tree. any thoughts mr puk or anybody else

Sorry forgot to add that i changed the fuel and air filter and seemed to make an improvement but still sluggish

This may be no help to you whatsoever, but I have had this code on my 1.8 TDDi Focus, together with P1564, (which is pump requesting reduced fuelling) for some time now
I have changed many, if not all of the sensors, checked wiring, changed EGR, blanked and unblanked it, and swapped a lot of other parts for testing from a similar car, and the code persists. AndyG has read and cleared them with his Lucas Laser several times, and the codes just come back as soon as you run the engine :?

I would love to know what this code means on a diesel engine  Does your van smoke a lot :?:

No altransit can,t say it smokes any more than our other 2.0 tddi transit but it does seem to drink fuel more than our other transit maybe inclined to think it might be pump or timing related but really pissin in the wind at the minute. Have you changed anything like the pump or checked timing as part of the parts or things you have done as im going to take a real good look at it at the start of the week if i get time. But im not really hopeful now after what you,ve told me about your efforts to find the problem

Btw altransit what symptoms does your focus have, are they the same as mine :?:

I'm pretty much at a loss with mine, but it starts and drives ok, so I live with the problem  But the primary problem that I have, but you don't, is that mine emits a thick cloud of black smoke if you boot it hard, and less, but still too much, if you drive it gently :P I'm currently getting over 40mpg from the car, but I'm sure that it should do more.

One thing that does mystify me is that I have a drop in power after driving it for a few minutes, it feels like the turbo has gone home. It will come back if you turn it off and re-start, but goes again after a few minutes. The turbo has been replaced, so its not that, but it could be the ECU cutting back on the fuelling, in response to the pump request, but I still don't get why it's overfuelling in the first place :? :? :?

Pump and injectors were replaced a couple of years back :x

Yes, I've seen that post, but discounted the timing solenoid as the pump was replaced.

There was another post with the same two codes as mine, but the poster never returned with a conclusion :x

Was the pump replaced during the time you had the trouble :?: or before it started

No, the pump and injectors were brand new from Ford, nothing was swapped over.
I'm annoyed now that the old one was probably OK, but thats what happens when you listen to some "specialists" telling you what the problem is. I was very naive about this car at the time, and knew very little about modern diesels, but the incurable optimist in me says that I will find the problem at some point

I certainly know a lot more now, than I did then, just by reading what some of the experts on here have to say :D
