collapsing boost hose

Postby Grenadekid » Fri Nov 05, 2010 9:48 pm

has anybody ever come across this problem?
The boost hose below the metal pipe where the egr pipe tee,s off it on the inlet manifold side (2000 model with egr at back of engine) to a plastic pipe which then leads to intercooler is sucking inwards when the van is revved, only ever came across this on a vectra a few years ago which ended up being a weak hose that the internal wall had collapsed. Its £45 from dealers but just want to make sure theres no other problems which could cause this. The turbo seems to be boosting correctly

surely that would only happen on a Normally aspirated engine when airfilter was blocked not on a turbo charged engine.

when you take a live reading from Map sensor, it never reads below atmospheric pressure. :?

Hi winterheating, Its caught me a bit by suprise too, i didnt take it off yet as the van was going out at the weekend and local dealers hadnt got replacement in stock but this would explain the power shortage and theres no other fault codes logged. Map sensor reading was about 9 or 10 from memory but really not sure, will check on monday again in detail and check pressure in other hoses

Think BElly had similar fault with his white jumbo, the turbo was siezed solid, could be worth checking.

Dont think its seized as i had the inlet pipe off yesterday, had a lot of suction and i could hear the turbo whistling clearly. but hadnt a lot of time to go into great detail like today, just managed to steal a minute or two every now and again
i know what you mean, would explain pipe being sucked in on inlet manifold side. I will have to look closer on monday, maybe hopefully pipe from turbo or intercooler bust

Thanks G-man but the first thing i did was new air and fuel filter, old filter wasnt that dirty so gonna try it with the pipe removed from the air filter box on the top of the engine just in case of a blockage in that part if the turbo checks out ok

or remove the elbow rubber on the inlet manifold, run it and you should get a very good flow from turbo (the metal pipe) even at tick over.

Must have an intercooler if metal pipe goes straight down :?: If so check intercooler, more likely to be blocked.

You were right winterheating intercooler well and truly blocked. took it off and scraped most of the gunk out of it and then pressure washed it to get rid of fine bits. boosting great now, van back to her old self
Thanks buddy
