Radio working but no sound

Postby Atki » Mon Dec 13, 2010 7:20 pm

Inheritated a 59 reg Transit Trend from work this week but seems the guy who had it before me for a short while has knackered the stereo.

Had to re-input the keycode for some reason, most likely the battery had been disconnected and everything works as it should apart from having no sound. Tried everything I know that could be the most likely cause but found nothing, i.e. checking fuses etc.

Anyone else had a problem like this? Need it fixed but because of how busy we are at work I am struggling to get work to send me to a dealer with it, they don't see having the radio as a necessity :( , I'm sure if the tracker went down it would be straight in.

Ohh and hi to everyone, will have a browse around the forums, couldn't find anything in search in regards to this problem in specific.

Regards,

Atki

Have you checked the plugs are in the rear of the unit correctly?Sounds like he might have had a different stereo in and not put it back in right.Hopefully the plugs havnt been messed with.

Yea I checked the plugs they are fine or seem to be fine, hasn't had the stereo out at any point as far as I am aware. The windscreen was replaced a couple of weeks ago which ties in with the time this came about (I think) but unless the stereo had an external amp for the speakers then if the unit is powered and looking to function correctly then I should be getting some sound.

 Check that the windscreen installer didn't slice through any wires when he took the old screen out (yes it has happened to me   )

If your van is a 59 plate then the radio connector at the rear should be the quadlock type. The radio will self-protect if there is a fault with any of the speakers. ie cabling shorted to earth etc. It does this to stop the internal amplifier burning out.

However, my first port of call would be the windscreen fitter as previously mentioned above.

If this turns up no joy, disconnect the quadlock connector at the rear of the radio and check each of the speaker wires to earth with a multimeter (ohmeter).

Hope you get it sorted without to much fuss.

But if the winsceen bloke has sliced the wires there won't be warranty just a big bill.
Is be onto the screen people first if its possible for this to have happened .

It has been back in today, problem I had getting it in before is how busy we are at work and not being given the time to get it to Ford. On holiday for christmas now so dropped it in this morning and they have removed the stereo and sent it off for repair apparently, should take 2-3 weeks normally but have to add on some time for xmas / new year.

Having no music or be able to ring people is driving me insane driving about all day.

Cheers everyone anyway,
