Rear drum query on mk2.

Postby whitemice » Thu Jan 06, 2011 3:24 pm

Got a pair of new drums for a tenner! I reckon one was drilled on friday night as it's a little out as picture, central but not square on raised stud locations, i reckon it will be ok safetywise on my 1985 mk2 ambulance, do you?

That is 'radially offset correctly' too Jay, it lines up fine.
Like i say the main thing is whether there are any safety issues in using this particular drum, my opinion is it's ok but i would like more widely learned peoples views/experience.

Unless the wheel doesn't seat correctly in those recesses, it should be fine :)

Thanks for your view AT, on the lwb amby once the drum is on the stud's the split washers are fitted and the twin wheels go on them followed by the nut's.

As i asked during the week i thought i would bump the thread as folk are more likely to be online, question really is whether this particular drum is safe to use? As you can see Jay and myself feel it will be fine, but does anyone know better?

Thanks Luke, yes nothing would foul the casing as the wheels get seated on the split washers, the drillings are only out by no more than @3mm and there is still plenty of thicker shoulder metal, I would really like to fit them as there has been a very slight oscillation apparent on the pedal over the last year which i put down to very slight ovality in the old drums which are 26 years of age now, at the price i got them for of £5 a drum it is a no-brainer not to fit them with the new springs/ratchets/handbrake cable and fairly recent shoes/pistons. They are good quality drums and made by Delphi. Only thing is i'll have to re-paint the wheels now with white poly to match the bling of everything else!
