Is the sub in an enclosure ? (box).

You need to determine the power rating of the sub so you can get the best ampl to drive it. There should be some info on the base of the magnet.

Never buy or use an amplifier that has a higher output level (RMS or W) than your sub you are driving or it wont last for long.

I have put my sub enclosure behind the steel bulkhead and drilled a number of 22mm holes in a 12" diameter circle. The sub is effectively located inbetween the driver and passenger bench seat, and the amp is mounted to the steel bulkhead (Also helps cooliong as the bulkhead acts as a big heat sink for my amp.)

This set up works for me as the enclosure would just not fit anywhere else without making a custom box to fit behind the passenger bench seat. (Which i have done in a friends van)

yes its in a box thats completely air tight, im sure they sound better with an air hole in them, ive got a 12" kicker in a box thats got a air hole & the bass sounds smoother, only baught the 15" square kicker due to hearing guys van at transitmania, i also baught the bass mekanik cd's off ebay to test it, il spend this weekend working out where im going to put it, my van is a semi high top & was thinking of putting it in the cab roof somehow, but for £249 i thaught it would have sounded better,

240 RMS is your problem

The solo L7 is 1000w RMS and the L5 is 750w RMS

you need to know if you have dual 4's or dual 2's as this will make a difference on the amp

I have this amp

on my dual 2 ohm sub

how big is your box?

Iv got 4 of them in mine

im sure its a d2, im searching for another amp pref a 4-6 channel, just been and baught 2 sheets of mdf & a circular saw, going to make my own box built into my bulkhead, the box the sub is in is a small trianglular shape, junk realy, my other 12" kicker is a round one a punch, to be honest sounds better than the square one, i felt a bit gutted spending loads on the new sub then it dident sound that good, but its the box the sub is in & the amp, could it be my stereo aswell, its a cheapy £149.99 sony xplod from halfords, the sub is the same as ur one but a slightly different cone pattern, i remember your van at mania, ive not heared anything like that before, i looked in your pasenger window & the bass nearly blew my hat off, if i can get my bass a little bit like that il be happy :D

for a sub like that you want a monoblock amp,

the head unit will be fine for 1 sub

Iv got a box for a single L7 in my garage if you want it

if its a dual 2 then that hifonics amp and run it at 1 ohm will run the sub at its maximum

problem you will have it there will be so much bass you will need component door speakers and an amp to run them

ive got infinity 6/9's in my doors, and another set in my bulkhead and a set of vibe 6/9's in my rear doors, the speakers sound fine & are very very loud, also got tweeters, im bidding on a kenwood 600w 4 chanel amp, will that do the job, i would have had the box but ive just spent nearly £40 on mdf & ive already started work on the bulkhead, thanks tho, i only wanted a little bit of bass now its turning into an expensive mission, im thinking of using my round kicker aswell, completely enclose it air tight & the square one il have facing inside the cab with a air hole, when its finished im going to cover my bulkhead with that plastic checkplate ally look sheeting thanks for all the info, il put pics on when ive done it, :D

i won a zx1 extreme mosfet 800w amp on ebay for £15, ive got everything ready to install, i rested it all in loosely & you can feel the bass presure on your chest, ive made 1 box into 2 & got the square sub facing in the cab at the top of the bulk head with a air port, the round sub is at the bottom of the box completely sealed air tight & ive used that fibreglass style box padding filling on the round one, sounds better than i expected, but my mot has to be sorted out so stereo has been put on hold, only failed on the exhaust, its booked in for next wednesday to have the exhaust fitted then il get back to fitting the subs & box properly, them bass mekanik cd's are good & make your subs thump & have all the different frequency levels, when ive finnished it il put pics on,

done it, sounds & looks good, just need a power cap now, il put pics on when i work out how to do it properly, if transitmania is on this year im entering the sound off, my van shakes, ( nothing like guys tho ) i had loads of mdf left so ive built a box round the bottom of my pasenger seat & fitted a 10" pioneer sub, il put a pic of that on aswell, that took me half a day to build, carpeted & looks smart, once you get going you cant stop :D
