Best Replace it mate, anything you do to shut up the diff will only be temperory, and you will end up with it off the road in the end. On the other hand, you will be suprised how long these things will whine on, sometimes for years! Have you checked the oil? Has it got any?

mk2 diff noise

Postby simon » Sun Jun 05, 2005 3:24 pm

I just got hold of a mk2 with a 3l essex in it.The diff howles like an owl over 40 mph but stops when i ease off the gas.I tried to check the oil but theres no filler or drain holes on the diff.Does it need a replacement diff or can the slack be taken up,or does it just need oil.

Like Luke said, are you sure, these are not sealed units, and do need to have the oil checked and topped up from time to time, so have a good look, there must be one.

Diff Oil

Postby chrisvmax » Fri Jun 10, 2005 3:17 pm

Does it matter what oil is used in a Mk2 twin wheel diff?

I'll try to get a picture of my ambulance on here soon. New bonnet should be going on this weekend!!

Regards,
Chris
