back axle diff problem

Hi .does a swb/semi hi 1991 axle with 5 nuts on wheel fit on to a 1997 lwb/semi hi 5 nut on wheel. friend mechanic looked and says no.breakers yard sais it will fit. can anyone help?

They are different axles the 97 is wider, but i'd have thought they would swap over, ive never done it though, better waiting for someone who has to post!!! :D

chicken :P

the basic fitment should be the same (ie for springs and shocks and prop) but you might find that the lwb version is a touch wider, only way to check is measure between the brake back plates or if its still on the van between the wheels then its kinda guess work if it will fit yours wtithout rubbing on the inside of the arches

put it like this - measure the spring hangers if there the same it will fit!!! :wink:

the new gen will fit the older motors ,so should be poss to go the otherway round ,mind you a 97 will look abit funny with the wheels more in the arches! :D
