Seat belt tensioner deactivation please!

Hi all,
Im looking to swap the passenger seat in my '98 Transit from a single armchair style to a twin seat more commonly found. I have a twin seat from an older transit and I need to remove the single seat to check fitment, On the seat belt tensioner there is a warning saying do not remove without deactivating.

can anyone tell me how I deactivate the tensioner so I can remove the seat safely??!!

just remove it, if you drop it or whatever it will just contract or whatever you call it but it will not blow up

This is what the tool looks like and where it fits and from the looks of it, it might be fitted on the pretensioner some where.

If not i'm sure you can get one from a Ford dealer.

you dont need that tool i remove these seats daily all you need not do is drop it, even if you do it will only contract no explosions or nothing i promise

thanks for the extra re-assurance, wasnt sure what i was expecting to happen but guess there was a kinda explosive thought in my head!!

next question, any idea how hard it will be to make a twin seat from a '91 transit (the tip forward style seat) fit into a '98 transit!!

.....that pic above?? where did you get it from if you don't mind me asking, have you got an electronic copy of the manual??!! if so is it available anywhere, that would be very very useful!!

hi mate you will need the brakets from the floor from the 91 transit ,and you will find the holes will be allready in the floor under the mat to take the double seat! am not shure about the 91 seat into a 98 i think they are difrent geoff will be able to tell you !

yes Mark is right,1991 different,the holes wont line up so drilling and bolting needed, 1992 fits like a glove

Doh! thats what I thought when i looked at it once the seat was out last night!

think im gonna leave this plan!!!

mate that might be best unless you get the correct seat for that year! transitgeoff will tell you as he deals with them all the time!
