the only way to get this sorted is to get codes read, the system has identified a fault and shut down, the asm system is an absolute nightmare and sometimes really difficult to diagnose

thanks for that I should have mentioned the van has been in the workshop for some time at first the injector pump was replaced and caused problems and now it was running fine when it was taken for a test run but when they tried to restart it came up with the gear change locked in 1st, they have tried a new module but still doing the same thing .

I read somewhere on here that there's a grey relay that can give trouble, so check your relays out
1st gear is automatically engaged on switch off AFAIK :!: So it may be just a lack of voltage (blown fuse)
Good luck :!:

That's right, it goes to neutral when you switch ign. on and you should hear the ASM pump running

Foot needs to be on the brake pedal, so also check the brake lights and switch/es are working correctly in that area

And thank you frankv10 for posting back, confirming it was just a simple relay fault :D

Can you take a picture of the position of this faulty relay :?:

Its a bit hard to take a photo of becouse its under the main fuse box under the bonnet. a realy easy spot to get to NOT.
and you where right there is 1 grey and 1 black relay both have been replaced but the grey one was all rusty inside
I will try and take a photo on the week end and post it on here

Many thanks for posting the position of the relay, even if we don't get any photos, at least we now know where to actually look :D
