Tappity ticking noise from engine.

Postby Boner » Mon Jun 20, 2005 6:16 pm

Awight
Quick yin for you..
My van seems to have develpoed a slight ticking noise inda engine bay.
Seems to be ok up to 40mph... then its noticable between 40-60..
above 60 its fine and the noise goes very quit more like normal.
could this be a blockage to do with the oil in the top half o the engine or more likly just tappets needing adjusted...??
cheers

according to me list of wierd noises from the Di, if it is specifically a TICKING noise,
most likely - broken piston ring,
second most likely - incorrect valve clearences,
so I would check da valve clearences first coz itz easier 'n cheaper an me "compiled by experts list" haz only proved 75% accurate.

Update for ya...
Ok the noise deffiantly comes and goes was actually not to bad today.
Im sure its just adjustment - gona pop the cylinder head of at the wkend.
Just out of intrest if it was something like the piston rings would the van blow smoke or any other indication? just the van runs very clean never smoky apart from at reving when i first start her up in the morning.

If you take the head off and want to check to see if the rings are worn just fill the cyclinders with fuel.

Oi ya could be right m8 it sounds like she needs oil but does'nt and no big knocking noises and dodgy metaically noiseies just ticking way to her hearts content.
I got a m8 thats gona give me a hand at the wkend cause i get a bit lost in engines.
My old van is now at his house as its still not sold so its good backup for transplants.
Let you all know what the outcome is if we dont loose the plot at them lol

Another update for you guys on this fking van

Ok i am raging and the guy is lucky he so far away...

Basically i hopped back into my old van the day and drove here all day long with no rpoblems etc and thought hell wtf did i buy that van for so i took it for MOT check it failed

ok i bought it with a full MOT so what that all about eh...

The gearbox problem is cause its f*** gearbox crossmember is so badly corroded its outa place and bent.. just the amoutn o waxoil hides it all  .

the windscreen started to leak on really close inspection its rotted all way round frame and filled with kin polyfiller i think.

front rh wheel failed on its brand new wheel bearing cause its shot again and the so called new steering rack is also shot on rh side.

It cost me fking 400 quid to get fixed the day.

I have officially lodged a complaint with ebay and intend on hammering this twat.

Be very very careful guys on ebay. Luckily i had the cash to fix it but im getting shot o it now so its good for next person and ilbe honest about it they can check evrything ..

At the end of the day if someone who works in garage or who has m8's that pass anyhting can sort vans out to pass MOT then wtf the point to ebay motors eh..

Thanks feck my old van no sold yit. atleast ahve sutin legal that i know is solid.. fair do she bit untidy cause she been sitting but she rubs fine does;nt leak shitloads throught he windscreen and the MOT is valid.

   time for tonnes of beers.

my brother got caught out like that. i got the truck now for spares.
when he got it it had 8 months MOT and virtually no chassis under the underseal wouldnt have passed a proper MOT four months before he got it.

yea its a nightmare m8
Thankfully the chassis were not to bad just all the other stuf deffo meant it fail a MOT in any other garage especially the gearbox mount thing.. there me thinking its the wrong box n that...
What makes it worse he not got the balls to answer the phone.
All the same i know his garage he got the work done so bita blackmail gona happen lol lol.
Luckily ave manged to swindle the repair work outa my commercial insurnace.
Just glad ill be able to sell it on knowing its cool imagine had i not noticed it all  id be the bstard.
Deffiantly learnt my lesson probably just gona go to a garge now buy yin for the sole reason i can shaft them back if its fked in anyway.

Might be worth writing to the papers or even Nikki Camp Bell on watchdog.I think eBay need a wake up call, they seem to be number one choice for shiesters selling cars and vans that woulld have failed an MOT done at the blind school and moody 'designer' gear and watches. You can also pursue the seller through the trading standards office, selling an unroadworthy vehicle other than as scrap or with a letter etc stating it's unfit at the time of sale for use on the road is against the law, full stop.
Hope you end up with a good one, presumably your feedback on the seller has kept the ebay censors occupied.

yeah mine was like that underneath after i drove it around for a year, when i started stripping it to repair sections i found sections stuck on with pigeon sh1t welding and roofing tar to hide it and stop it rattling

i didnt look that closely at it when i bought it, as i can weld so a few hole didnt worry me, it had 12 months MOT, but should NOT have thats for sure ... now its nice and solid :) .... lots of galv plating and all oversized in thickness ... lol
