sierra XR8

Postby MRspivvy » Mon Sep 05, 2005 2:50 am

Yes, I mentioned to my mate about them. he was involved in motor racing when the xr8 was current so he knew a bit about them. even in south africa they are a bit thin on the ground, but do crop up now and again for around 5 grand (our money) far more common is the XR6, sierra or cortina with the essex 3.0 V6. sounds good though doesnt it...ford sierra with a 5.0 mustang V8!! and it looks pretty standard on the outside too! also pretty common in rust free condition out there are things like old 60's+ 70's mercedes, alfas, innumerable BMC stuff like triumph 2000s, austin 1100 based export models, masses of cortinas, and plenty of older yank tin. I am planning a trip out there next year, if I can afford it I want to bring something back! shipping is around £600-£700
I think its a shame they didnt do transits out there, seeing as its a country like australia with cheap petrol where they like their big engined stuff, you can only wonder what motor they would have stuffed in a tranny!

Transits

Postby petervanlee » Mon Sep 05, 2005 12:24 pm

They never did export transits to africa but a laod did turn up there as a number of companys in the UK did send them over, along with replacment engines in fact even today there are two people I know buying cheap transits and exporting them. It would be great to find one of the early MK1s from africa........ peter
