A bit more progress this week, I may get pictures posted tomorrow.
I have removed the pickup body, wit the aid of a saw, very rotten. Lifted it off, I knew it had to come off sooner or later, in order to replace brake and fuel lines. One thing I will not compromise is safety, and so I will renew all brake lines. Nice fresh copper, new fittings, and the MOT man is less likely to look for a fault.
Little tip here for you, if you're interested. Sometimes it pays to think lateral, not logical. I want new flexipipes, (brake hoses) but the proper jobs are £12 each. So I thought what else would fit? Morris minor or MGB are both imperial ends, right length, at £6.75 + vat. So by thinking outside the box, I've just saved about £17. Brake pipe ends, male and female. Forget buying them in 1s and 2s on a card, go to the local Partco place, 50 males 50 females for 14 quid. Sods law says you will run out at 10 on a Sunday night. When you get them in 50s you may run out in 2008.
All in all I reckon I will rebrake it all for about £40.
The chassis is being painted, don't tell the anoraks, but Dulux black gloss.
Had a scare the other day when I enquired about crossplies. £115 each!. I think I'll find some cheapo radials for my spare set of Weller 8 spokes, and keep the existing crossplies for shows.
All in all still happy with it, but I have a nasty feeling something expensive is about to happen.....
Still looking for some hardwood for the bed, thinking of packing cases from local steel place. I will have to see.

Whoa! the price of those crossplies! I will try to hang on to ours (only got 6,000 miles on em), but would prefer to run on radials anyway. I am not too sure if they would pass the modern class 7 anyway, one tester tried to fail one of ours cos the word commercial wasn't spelled out on the set of brand new tyres! Keep it up, she will get there!

I have a spare set of rims, off the van, so what I shall probably do is treat these tyres to some tyreblack, paint the rims up, and swop them over if and when I get to shows to keep it looking original, but use ordinary radials the rest of the time. Just need some 195/15s for the other rims.

Thanks for the continued interest.

Don't suppose you can have a look to see if it has chrome wing mirrors or bumpers could you please? Next time you are there.... I am trying to back date ours, so it can pass for a longer period of time on camera.

Well its been a while, so another update. The timber bed is giving me concern. I have some Western Red Cedar on order, coming from a scaffolding firm on a Saturday morning. Scaffold is outside all weathers, and has to be to BS, so good enough for my truck.
Mecanically, no real difference, tooked master cylinder off, all gummed up. Brakes no great probems at all. Bodywork seems to get worse, localised rotting in places you would expect, but is getting replaced bit by bit. Main worry is how to do the gutters.
Regards
Andy

A front view, with more work done, and here's a rear view of the timber bed. Sapele bearers and Keruing bed and head/til boards

I had to get the head and tailboards on first, to allow me to make the sides accurately. I reckon it's the timber that will really make it stand out, so I have spent a lot of time on it, sanding and 5 coats of varnish so far.

There is major problems with the gutters, but I will come to them later. Hope you like my babby, and the best news of all today, DVLA relisted it, and I have a v5. Yeeeehhhhaaahhhh!

Yes I know. Unfortunately. Thames have one or two known rot spots, the gutters being one of them. The roof has a lip outwards, then the gutter is an l mould, then the side panels have a lip out aswell, the three bits then spot welded together.
In the 60s, same as Transits today, manufacturers didn't bother too much with corrosion, because the quicker the thing rotted, the quicker they would come back for a new one.

I have a mate who is prepared to have a go at it, and I know he will do a first class job. He won't let something out his workshop till he's happy with it. The advantage is if he has to get glass out, then he may as well paint it. I wish my bodywork was as good as my woodwork lol.

Could one of you photoshoppers make it dark blue with a cream roof please?

Thanks again.
