Yes. But i only have one key. Need to get new locks as a different key works the bonnet and the ignition barrel looks a bit trashed.

OK, I was just going to suggest having a plain unchipped Tibbe key cut (to fit the door) and secreting it somewhere on the van (under the rear bumper, inside a wheel arch) just for emergency door opening

If you are going to fit a different lock set, and want to keep in "in forum" - I can cut and programme keys

Got around to fitting the rest of my ventilation fan. I wasn’t happy with the expensive and loud options available. Plus they make a van look pretty obviously like a camper. Mounted a Noctua NF-F12 with IP67 rating, controlled by a Noctua NA-FC1. After testing I’m thinking i might need another and maybe a fan brining air in. Let’s see. Either way, it’s pretty quite and can be run at low speed thanks to the PCM controller. Also used a boat inspection hatch so in really cold weather it can be sealed up to keep heat in. I’ll be mounting the controller near the drivers side B-pilar so it can be also used while driving in summer (maybe there will be one next year) to help clear the hot air.

Other work today includes replacing all the lock barrels, making a harness adaptor for the OBD port to reduce theft potential, checking the gearbox oil level, checking the engine block number (it is the original motor), some dinatrol cavity wax in the chassis rails and started building the frame for the sliding door roller blind.

Also discovered some kind of diesel leak. seems to be along the smaller pipe so assume that’s spill from brimming the tank. Expect in the morning to find someone with a jerry can collecting the drops.

Well this one took 3 weekends didn’t it.

1 weekend to do the sliding door
1 weekend to re-do the sliding door because I f*** it up with the wrong glue (didn’t get the ‘turbo’ quick drying stuff)
1 weekend to do the rear doors

Will need another weekend to carpet/ board the doors and a few hours to fit some plastic trim & brushes to keep heat in and light out. Still for now it’s great not to have my windows covered with Proplex so I can actually used them. Doing the blinds is a faff so electric motors are on the list.

Also go my new keys coded with FORScan, a few other anti-theft measures, fitted a stereo and
speakers with DAB (thanks Facebook Marketplace source of unending cheap things), re-wired the lighter socket so it’s only on with the ignition and glued my ceiling lights so they’re not hanging by the wires. Getting all the little jobs done before new turbo time in November.

After two months of saving up, buying parts, watching the whole of youtube and meticulously planning to do some service and get rid of the last known mechanical gremlins (turbo compressor wheel, leaking power steering pump and water pump because they’re attached) I booked some days off that just happened to be the coldest of the year and this is how it went…
477F047E-E700-4300-B46D-8D0CA1E62F8F.jpeg

Ford fuel filter doesn’t fit, £20 wasted. No problem, refit the Mann one. Compressor housing barb disintegrates. No problem, get 6mm aluminium tube from B&Q to make a new barb, £35 aluminium repair kit, melt/cut/sand/tap threads.
B144790C-6825-4369-984B-26948C7700E4.jpeg
9mm hose clamp is too small and, next available size 12mm too big. No problem, found some rubbish adjustable ones that’ll do for now. Drop the sump and find metal chunks and also clogging the oil pickup. No problem, realise the debris in the pickup is just sealant and the chunks from when the cam carrier snapped.

Can’t find magnetic sump plug. No problem, spend two days looking for it in the gravel and find it magnetised to the new sump. EGR, water pump and PAS pump have a stripped bolt each. No problem, £20 bolt gripper set and size/cut/sand new bolts from my collection plus order PAS pump ones £5. Sump bolt cross threads. No problem, hope for the best. PAS pump line to rack union won’t come out. No problem, heat it with blow torch and soak in penetrating fluid until giving up and refitting half of the new pump to the old one. Can’t get the turbo actuator rod to reattach. No problem, I’ll work that one out later.

End of second day past 10pm in cold and snow on gravel drive and finally fill with oil/coolant/PAS fluid. Oil flowing from new feed pipe on cranking and engine starts. Glow plug light comes on. No problem, plug in forscan and realise I didn’t reconnect the intercooler sensor. Last job of the day to attach the turbo oil feed… banjo bolt snaps off inside the turbo. Big problem.

An easy-out should get that out fairly easily... You might even get it with a screwdriver?

You’re right. An easy-out did it just spinning with my fingers so it really wasn’t tight before it snapped. My mistake was there was too much tension in the oil feed line pulling at the major bolt… so I loosened the bracket that attached to the back of the gearbox. Drove it 50miles yesterday and no exploding turbo yet so seems like a job done for once :D Will be checking the line for oil weeping.

Since I got the old turbo off I can still feel almost no play - same as the new cartridge. So I’m thinking foreign object in the intake was most likely cause of damage rather than bearing failure. Still, new oil feed and 4 oil changes in 4k miles can’t be a bad thing. Not noticing any changes to the power delivery/torque but I feel happier about it.

I'd swap the Mk6 front end onto it just for something to do
