Basically locking the rotation of both wheels together, making the van wanting to go either in straight lines, or sideways
Yeah I welded it up myself, its not pretty, but there was a pretty big gap to fill up and the teeth of the gears melt away like butter!

I wouldn't say vandalised, more like it was broken and needed "fixing" lol

robbie.cee wrote:so it was professionally vandalised then!!

in the last picture, what was it you welded up Feez?

i heard people say the welded up the diff to lock it, but which bits are you locking together?

I might end up welding the diff on my van with the new turbo

Although the diff on the transit is pretty strong.....if it has oil in it

Robbie, the diff side gears (which the halfshafts engage into) are welded to the diff casing...

as standard the propshaft turns the pinion gear, which engages with the large ring gear.
the side gears and spider gears allow the wheels to turn at different speeds (sends the torque along the path of least resistance)

when its welded, the spider gears don't do anything (or are removed depending on welding style)....
downside is both wheels HAVE to turn at the same speed....

However, with a powerful transit, you soon realise that it will go sideways anyway :P
a welded diff just makes it more predictable when it is sideways!

What sort of boost pressure does this make
And at what rpm I'm after a new turbo for my tdi
But not sure if a t04e would be to big for road use
Currently have a kkk k14 standard turbo blue spots and
Was running around 26psi of boost
