so in my last post i made a joke about my axleman having a brand new diff sitting on the shelf, turns out he did, but i didnt buy it before our jolly to santa pod, but were going again in 3 weeks then 4 weeks after that, so looks like i gotta bite the bullet a spend 300 quid on a diff that i wont be keeping forever, as the old knackerd one i refitted is whining its nuts off, we made it to pod and back, but dont think i can risk it again

so i spent this afternoon pulling the diff out, again, slight change in ratio from the one i just pulled out which was a 4.62,mk1 transit ratio, now going in is a more popular 4,56, the 3,54 i had was a bit long legged for the wheel size im now running on the back, all new bearings in this diff and a brand new genuine ford cwp aswell 8) hope it lasts till i get the atlas hybrid built.
i bought an electric fuel pump which im in the process of fitting aswell, trying to eliminate the fuel evaporation issue, idea being if it gets hot and dies, just flick on the pump on and carry on, we will see if it works

so me shitbox transit is making a noise from the underneath, and i cant decide if its the gearbox or the diff again (really, how many fookin diffs) there is a load of backlash in it, but its just been rebuilt with a brand new cwp in it and its done fook all miles
pain in the arse, as its on towing duty on saturday, if it dont break.
fookin motors

so we managed towing duties this afternoon, van was doing some weird sh*t on the return journey dragging the car back, dunno if it was resistance in the diff or something else, but it was like the van was surging, definatley not a happy van, got it back home and started to rip the square tube axle off, its going in the bin, got another atlas lined up for it till i get my hybrid one finished, wheels will be a problem though, wont be getting my 9's back on it for a bit :( have to go back to a skinny tyred transit.
not sure wot the ratio is gonna be either, 4.6 or 5.1  not ideal, but wotever just need it to last a bit longer than the last 3 have.
more progress soon

so thanks to my friend steve and with help from my son Jack, we now have another atlas axle in the house, ratio is a 4.63;1 looks like its been at the bottom of the sea, but i dont care, been giving it a bit of a clean up today, brakes loook like they might go again, drums have cleaned up, just need to fit my new old handbrake cable once its back on the van, doesnt seen to be any backlash in it, so fingers crossed  just need to decide if i put the skinny revos on the back  or see if i can get a pair of wide 14" tyres and put me wellers on for now

so i managed to get the ol banger back together, sort of, looks like its going to have my trusty wellers back on the rear end for now, jus need to sort out a pair of tyres to go on, as the tyres they have on at the mo are 225 40  got some 195 65's i might try, or im looking for a pair of 205 60's.
brakes are a bit of a mish mash of bits, but gonna run it over to my sons work and run it in the brake rollers to make sure they are up to the job, might end up putting the wellers back on the front aswell, or i will need to carry 2 spare wheels as i will have 2 pcd's

weve had a couple of local runs out in the ol banger, new axle seems ok, might be a small whine at about 5omph but i can live with it for now, still trying to sort out a pair of tyres as it a proper rev head at the mo, 4.6 ratio and a 40 series tyre is not a good combo
got some plans lined up for the interior, the double seat has been taken out of the rear, kids dont travel in it anymore, and i want to fit a unit in the back for the camping stove and a sink, a bit more camperish :D
more soon

At least you are mobile again, I think I have some reasonable 185 or 195 x 14 tyres if they are any use to you.
