Ah I see so 2k & 1k are no compatible then, I mean the ratio of lacquer and thinners isn’t it 1 - 1.

Are you going to flat the primer down before paint, remember this is the most important stage.

Looking good so far

Google says it is compatible and the seller sold me the paint and 1k lacquer. :x

But as I'm getting it, 1k is ready to use out of the tin, but 2k requires external hard er and a splash of thinners.

I have coloured velcro round scouring disks like the green ones on the sponge you clean the pots with, absolute game changer, I took the gloss shine off the whole van in an hour and it is perfect key for the paint. I've sprayed all the technical bits of the van in high build primer and a light mist on the other flat panels. I'm using 1000 wet and dry on soapy water to gently rub it all smooth you hear the sound change when the sharp goes smooth. So this week is primer and rub down. Most of the rub will be on the 2 mirror caps because they're mottled, 3 layers of paint and they're virtually fully smooth now. I scratched a bit much so binned that and taken 1 from Asbo.

I have a few bits like door etc to do. Next week will be red coat 8)

Did you get the paint local? I’d be going back with the lacquer as it seems faulty if it ready to shoot and comes out like that.

When I painted the Alfa the one thing I wish I had done was to go around it with a torch and check for small dents there are one or two that stand out and really piss me off.

Going to look good once it’s finished.

You’ve used that 4 way stretch van lining in the past haven’t you? Is it easy to work with

Stretch carpet is great, can of spray glue apply to both pieces to be joined then work it along. :P

That's on my list of to do.

I have the full tourneo interior trim. I'm deffo going to carpet the front and rear roof linings. I don't know whether to line the plastics or throw them and carpet the van body direct

I’ve just done the cab roof lining, didn’t realise it was so easy to do, might do the door cards next

I don't recall what I did, probably left them but if paint looks good then why not. I have a bad feeling about carpeting them :|

Did you remove the headlining?

It is addictive

I'm spraying primer everywhere at the moment. Mainly the back of things. The idea is that I can refit everything and paint it red, not sure yet as i might do them one by onex hopefully it'll be painted within a few weeks then stay to fit everything

Aye I had the headliner out while fitting the new horns and tidying some wiring up, much easier, it is addictive, thinking what else I can carpet

Good idea painting the inside, door jambs ect before the outside, watch your timing between coats and the weather you don’t want the paint to flash too quickly or it’ll look poop, is the mix 2 parts paint, 1 part thinners and 1 part activator, when I did the Alfa I mixed up about 2L ready so I could just shoot it without having to mix more, should be looking shape once it’s painted and polished

I have 2k primer,2k base, 2k lacquer, so primer is 5:1 and 2k thinners. Then base I think 2:1 and 2k thinners and again lacquer 2:1 and thinners.
Might need more mixing cups

I have tack rags for between coats. And the botched up extractor seems to be quite good. I finish spraying and after 5 or so minutes the building seems clear. I'm only doing sections at a time really. I know I might suffer with shading but when there's too much of an area it will be misty and I'll rush it and they're will be orange peel or dusting. So I'll do maybe a full side minus doors, then I can fit the doors and mask up what I don't need spraying and then do the doors. The big 1 will be the lacquer I think. Say I do the door shuts and backs off the doors. I have under 8 hours to do the outside of the doors etc then lacquer the whole lot in one upto the line. See :P but I'll save a few grand I reckon,as long as it looks good from your house I'll be very happy

Have a look at twin sticks garage on YouTube he’s painted his Peter built in a garage similar size to your lair, he made a kind of homemade spray booth, basically a huge plastic sheet hung from the rafters so no paint dust gets on everything else and a big fan pulling the spray mist out the door.

Orange peel is normally caused in the paint drying process as the thinners evaporate, colour coat doesn’t take that long you’ll probably be able to do the full van 3 coat in about 3 hours, tack cloth is used before colour coat a long with pre paint (panel wipe) once you start the colour coat you’ll get about 20 minutes between coat for the paint to flash off, you’ll want the 1st coat to become tacky before the next coat or are you planing on doing float coats where you let each coat dry fully.

Mixing cups are fairly cheap of Amazon, don’t forget filters to strain the paint through from mixing cups to spray gun, what gun you using gravity or suction feed

With it being a solid colour and not metallic you should be ok on colour match doing the doors and side at separate times as long as the doors are done with the same can of paint as the side of the van

Is it done yet

And timing is important I think. The spray pools and a delay which is where the runs can happen. Also vertical spray can get heavy if slightly too thick and then runs. Might put the van on its side

I'll hopefully do most of it at the weekend :P
