Have been busy making repairs / changes to the van recently .. .. .. here are some of them .. .. ..

Replaced the seats with items from a V@uxh@ll and changed the clocks from original to these.. .. .. .. personally I think they look better



Both rear arches needed doing, thanks to 24vMK2 [Paul] for the repair panels, so they got done.

Clocks are out of an 'A' reg Granada estate. Wiring them in was easy .. .. .. as for fitting? direct replacement for the original clocks
I also have the option of removing the clock and replacing it with a rev counter .. .. .. when I come across a set with one fitted.

In a word no, as you see them in the pictures is how they are fixed, they now have a skim of bodyfiller over the joins to hide the welds.

Realy like those clocks Areg granny that would be a MK2 are they easy to fit the ones in my mk4 are crap cant see them at night think I feel a coversion coming on

One thing I will say about the clocks.. .. .. they dont show up to brightly in the dark.. .. .. If you take the clocks apart you will find blue bulb covers inside that give off the blue subdued light .. .. .. fantastic to look at in the dark but not so hot in the failing light.

My thoughts are to remove the bulb covers and fit blue/orange/red tint sidelight bulbs, whichever colour looks best, given the bulbs are 30 bob each [or there abouts] they will have to wait untill a time when I'm feeling a little more frivolous.

As for fitting.. .. .. my original post states that they are a direct replacement for the original clocks.. .. .. needing only modification to the wiring.

Wiring them in is real easy [now I've done it] using the original clocks as a template I found which wire went where by following the copper tracing on the back.. .. .. .. then found the corresponding connection / copper track on the donor clocks.. .. ..

All the early Ford dash's had crap lighting, the blue covers discolour over time. I have replaced just about every Ford I have had with new blue domes...but the real trick is to remove the bulbs and put in sidelight rated ones..the dash ones are 0.3 watt, side lights are 5.0 watt. Huge difference. The only thing to be careful with is sometimes the bulbs (even the lower rated ones) touch the blue dome so over time burn through it. The option there is to remove the domes altogether and use side light bulbs but of the coloured variety.

The Blue domes when combined with the yellowish light of regular bulbs makes for a Green glow.
If you are worried in anyway with the heat from the regular bulbs or the higher rated ones then replace the bulbs with the domes still in place but use White LED sidelights...expensive but very low heat and very bright.

BTW the domes are rather expensive for what they are. Everytime I have got them they have had to be ordered in. If I did enough searching I am sure I have a few tucked away as I have in the past ordered them to do when I had time and forgot where I put them. Always get enough to do the entire dash as the heat they have been subjected to means they are very brittle and turn to powder when you try and remove them or even clean them.

As a sideways thing my Granada had a dimmer control for the dash lights and after I went with the higher bulbs found that lowest was still brighter than stock. A local boy racer store near me used to do coloured bulbs of all varieties including the very small bulbs that went behind the heater controls etc, but now they don't seem to exist (the small coloured bulbs that is) Oh and good luck with the heater control bulb on the early Transit as it is a real pig to get to, took me 30 mins to do the last time I got the urge to finally replace it as you can't get your hand in the right place so you have to drop the heater controls.

I'm not too bothered about these back doors as I have some more on the way.. .. .. and thought better to practice on old doors than on new'ish ones.

First thing i do to that style dash is remove the blue covers and fit blue sidelight bulbs, 5W capless, makes a HUGE difference you can actually use the dash dimmer again (in a car obv), usually use cortina Ghia cos thats what i break so usually have loads laying about
