MK6 ENGINE MODS "this will be progress"

HI all,
im a Transit Virgin.. Just got hold of a 2.4 Duratorq with 90ps. Dont get me wrong its more than willing to pull its weight but i just want it to be a little more responsive and nippier (who doesnt) Is there anything i can do to the engine reasonably cheap to give me better torque and perhaps bhp/ps ??

What things should i check over on the engine to make sure its well maintained. Im gonna get the cambelt done if it has one, im not too sure if its a chain or not either. Also i remember someone saying i should check some kind of vacum hose running to the turbo i think ???
Basically i wanna know what i need to do to make sure the engine is spot on, its my first Diesel and im a propper virgin.

Alloys will be next but i need to do a search and get the pcd. Hoping to through some 18's on her and maybe lower it slightly but i dont know yet. Builders yards and the tip are making me
think twice about the latter

Paid £2500 for her, full m.o.t, nearly full road tax, new tyres, night heater, rear seats and fully capeted on the partition along with steel plates. Im chuffed to bits and it drives spot on apart from an odd "dryish" turning noise which comes and goes
Oh yeh, i wanna remove the rear sliding windows aswell and get the propper ones fitted and tinted that should be there!

Cheapest way for power is a remap, Vantuner is good aparently

Its a chain not a belt on the engine. change oil and all the filters, check the belts, look out for any leaks etc

As for alloys its a 5 x 160mm PCD but make sure there rated for the load

Atleast i know its a chain, thats a big help. Is there anything that needs checking around this area bud like cam tensioner ?
Also can i not do anything to the engine apart from a remap? Heard they cost £250 - £400
Seems a lot to pay, isnt there anything else that can be done
Tuning box's ive heard are ok, but i wouldnt know where to start.

How hard are alloys to get hold of in 18's for that pcd bud ?

Id go for a remap. a decent tuning box would be a bluefin

Unles it rattles on start up i wouldnt wory about the tentioner

Only 18" alloys iv seen are sportvan ones BUT there only a t260 so not rated for yours (im assuming its either a 330 or 350)

350 bud yeh but id never carry heavy loads!
I bet those alloys cost a fortune

Nothing else that can be done cheaper, like increasing the diesel intake a little or turning the turbo up, can this not be done ?

That doesn't matter, the wheels and tyres still need to be rated up to the full capable loading of the van.

Because the van is plated for that weight, the wheels have to be too! If they aren't, vosa will throw the book at you !

vosa can go f**k um selfs

so basically i wouldnt be able to put sportvan alloys on mine, correct ? Thats just terrible news if so!
Where would i be able to find such a wheel to carry the weight then guys so " its safe " not that it wouldnt be anyway.

its more the tyres than the wheels - with the sportvans being 18" its tricky to get tyres that will cope- if you get some 16" alloys you wont have the same problem
