I was going to do the same but it looked too much like hard work so I fitted the full unit. The Espace seats were in good nick anyway.

Looked like a grinder job to me as they're part of the base??

correct its a grinder job but an easy one tho m8

On the MK1 espace, the bases are bolted on!!! after that they are part of the seat :(

I didn't have any better seats to fit on at that point. Was planning on some heated leather SAAB ones, but the Espace ones were as good as new after a bit of upholstery cleaner.

No the best picture, but I just took these outside...
The part of the base that you can see is about 45mm thick not including the handle and there is another 20mm under the carpet. I had to add the 1" box at the front to make the seat sit back slightly. I wish I had brought 2 now... £20 if I remember rightly.

yeah i used mk1 espace base's in my van, they took a bit of finding at a sensible price, in the end i think paided £10 quid for the pair from one of my local breakers. one thing i found though with the base is are they are 40mm tall so the seats sit higher, unless you remove a section out of the middle of the base frame if your using standard transit bases, like ive done on mine to get the seats to sit lower.
Right 5th Transit now A black petrol mk5 swb, soon to be coverted into a day van mpv.

Its funny you say that as mine are too high for the misses, by the eight of that 1" box section... I added it after I welded it to the subframe
