Update:

Just got back from a 900 km run through the Ardennes in Belgium and Luxembourg. The van is just awesome with this engine. Everything runs just fine. No strange vibrations or noises. The pulling power is superb. On steep climbs where it used to fall back to around 30 Mph last year it now manages 65 easily and still lots of power to spare . Sometimes I just pulled away from modern vans and MPV's on the steepest of climbs. Brilliant.

Mind You this is still with the 5.83 back axle. Revs are a tad high, but at 3.700 rpms at 65Mph in 5th, which is a nice cruising speed, it's still far more comfortable and less noisy than the old V4. I put my foot down and is pulls through all the way to the rev limiter at 5750. Topspeed must be about 100mph-ish. Fuel consumption at about 23mpg. is slightly worse than the Scorpio did due to the revs . This is still about 40% better than the V4. Breaking is a completely different ballgame now. I would not be surprised if breaking distances have reduced to half the length they used to be with the front drums. I'm a happy camper sofar!

Will post pics of the campersection soon.

what an awesome job, you just nevr got your self bothered by any set back, just one thing, the shaft on a mk2 steering box is 4 inches longer than mk1, but the mk2,s have all got a weld near the bottom, i suspect fords lengthened all the mk1,s. when building the mk2 vans. well done!! :D
