I have a set of bull bars like that but postage from Northern Ireland to England might be a problem.

Have been doing some maintenance and found out that a cable was not connected...

It was hidden beside the rocker cover and the end of the cable was hiding above the gearbox, I only spotted it because i had the air filter box off...

A cable from the thermostat with goes to the Injection Pump and with great advice from gemini Thanks dude, i now have it reconnected and the van starts first go in the morning instead of trying atleast twice... COOOOOllllll

Also priced up a few service parts from Halfords

Timing Belt - £21.99
Fuel Filter - £12.49
Air Filter - £6.49
Oil Filter - £6.99

Forgot to price up some 10W/30 oil

Also need to get some replacement fuel pipes as a previous owner has CUT the fuel pipes to and from the Fuel Filter to the Injection Pump and bodged them back together by getting a slightly larger tube and bunging the ends in..... DOH...

Also need to get power steering fitted as had to do a 28 point turn on saturday night in a very small road to turn around,
accidently reversed into a wall but no damage to my van

The oil should be 10w\40 mineral or 5w\30 semi also if you are going to do the timing belt get a new tensioner as well.

Becuase the tensioners fail! If you buy the proper cambelt kit it comes with the tensioner.

I just seen a Timing Belt Kit which comes with a new Tensioner...

It different from mine, as it only has one bolt and not two! is this a revised version?

Don't buy anything from Halfords... go to your local independent motor factors it'll be much cheaper!

Hello.

Long time no see

Where shall i start i been a bit busy to do any work on my van but have managed some...
I fitted the bumper end caps, gratefully recieved from MarkM (Thanks Dude), rear of van looks a lot tidier.

OOooo also fitted Central locking, but sometimes the drivers door sticks and will not release properly but will look into that soon.... Honest

14th Sept

Getting round to give the poor old give a much needed major service
Today i changed the...

Air Filter - £3.26 - Jim Barker Motor Factor
Fuel Filter - £7.35 - Jim Barker Motor Factor
Replaced the fuel return line as was leaking (Injection Pump to Fuel Filter)

Tried to do the rest but rain stopped play SO yet to fit are...

Oil Filter - £3.96 - Jim Barker Motor Factor
Timing Belt - £14.71 - Jim Barker Motor Factor
Oil - £13.16 - Jim Barker Motor Factor

After i replace the Air Filter, i start the old girl up and it seems to be more will to rev now, as in more responsive, no hesitation what so ever so i am well pleased

When i replaced the Fuel Filter it went ok well first attempt i didn't push the Filter up high enough and when the clamp was tighten i let go of filter only for it to drop on the starter.... DOH
So undone the clamp and after putting a smear of engine oil on the inner and outer seal i push the filter up and it seated a lot better and whille i held it with right hand i tighten the clamp with left hand every couple of turns i tried to turn the filter, repeating until i couldn't turn the filter then tried to start it up.

It took three 10 second turns before it would start but then was fine, checked for leaks and there was none... RESULT..

Just have to wait for dry day to do the Oil & Oil Filter change, also Timing Belt

Both of my windows decided to bust on me, both window runner channels where very badly rusted.

I tried the scrappies looking for replacements but they where just as bad as mine so i made some of my own from 16 SWG (1.6mm) plate , 18 SWG (1.2mm) would of been better also A LOT easier to shape but i only had 1.6mm so here is what i done.

Image
First i hammered it to a 'L' shape 7/8" long.

Image

Then i measured 1/2" and cut along the line, leaving me with the 'L' piece below
Image

Then i cut a strip 1/2" wide.. 'L'piece and strip are 12" Long
Image

The rubber strip was slide onto the window and with the new 'L' piece on the bottom and the 1/2" strip on top, i held them with some clamps and spot-welded then together.
NOTE I covered the window with a piece of wood so the splatter didn't melt into the glass. I also cooled down the metal after every two 1" stitch welds ( to cool the metal but also to make sure i didnt melt the rubber underneath
Image

The internal gap needs to be 7mm...

Then you can stitch weld the runner for the window mechanism underneath this and this will last years......

Especially mine as 1.6mm was used ...
Image

I hope this information about how i over-come this problem can help others....
