need to do a little patch for the mot! pic hea vy

Postby wallopadonkey » Mon Jul 25, 2011 9:59 pm

had to do a little patch for the mat just behind the front passenger step
it was a bit awkward to get at and find some good steel to weld to so i thought i would just take a few bits out of the way and sort the patch before lunch and mot it in the afternoon
Image
I removed the plastic step covers and found a little more
Image
and the arch was a bit scabby
Image
so i then cut out the rotted out top bit and found the problem source looks like someone jacked it up on the sill and crushed it up splitting the seam as it went!
Image
bit of a mess really
Image
and while looking closely i saw this
Image
anyhow i thought i would then have a little poke around
by the edge of the step and .... you guessed it
lifted the plastic triangle up and
Image
then the carpet
Image
Image
thought i would trim the outer wing and arch by a few inches to see if the inner wing needs anything....
Image
and a little here i can see this taking a little more than a morning!

oh yeah

Image
humm the outer, inner wing is like lace and where it joins to the seam is rotten too!
Image
just need to check in the crossmember before it gets serious
Image
give it a quick slice to check its insides
Image
is is actually solid and i will zip up the slice later before i waxoil in there

so as if it wasnt bad enough i had a sneeky peek under the wing and wahay a pillar box section where it joins to the inner wings was toast as well lol fun and games
Image
Image

oh yeah then i drilled all the spot welds on the wing and the inner wing fell off with it!!!

Image

so i have had my van home for about 6 hours and it looks worse for wear
Image
however it wont be so bad after a little zinc primer
Image
and half a dozen magnum panels

Thats what you get for being fussy

The door should line up ok, the bit you have to watch out for is the bottom of the wheel arch piece against the bottom of the door!
