Painted My Bumpers

Postby chris72a » Sun Sep 02, 2012 1:09 pm

Hey All, so a lovely sunny day here in Sydney and My ADHD was playing up so I had to do something, have been thinking about doing my bumpers for a while (colour coding) but didn't want to do in 1 pack acrylic, I found a place close to me that does 2 pack paint in a spray can (I hate washing my spray gun and equip) so I was hooked, 2 cans of ZJ moondust silver and 2 cans of 2 pack clear coat, a couple cans of high fill primer and 1 plastic primer I was set..

Heres the process I followed just in case anyone interested..

Removed Bumpers
Sanded dimples down as much as possible wanted a nice smooth finish,
cleaned with scuff stuff and scotchbrite pad
wiped over with isopropyl alcohol, (this apparently removes any anti mould stuff in the bumpers)
wiped over with wax and grease remover.

2 coats of plastic primer
3 coats of high fill primer, (light sanding betwwen coats)
2 coats top coat
2 coats clear coat

First time i've used 2 pack in a aersol, wore my respirator and googles just in case, supplier said is was O.k to spray outside, unlike traditional 2 pack.

Not many picks but a couple as I kept forgetting to take photos.

Got a nudge bar on the way finally found one at a reasonable price, oh yeah and the lights anyone know the fog light size off the top of their head, I plan to put a LED bar on the nudge bar to when it arrives.

Hi mate, the coded bumper looks good on the silver van.

My supplier does the front fogs for the Mk6, same as the European Escort Mk6, not much use to you in Aus though.
They are 'egg' shaped, you have to cut the hole in the bumper to fit them.
Lots of chaps on here have done it so there should be some pics to help if you search.
