Extreme makeover from a fire truck into a 'service' car

Postby Z-point » Tue Feb 06, 2007 12:04 am

I bought my Transit with a purpose, to transform it into an ‘in period’ service car for my Datsun rally car. When I mailed last Friday with a friend of my, he told me his friend had the same car for the same purpose!!

Probably the basis of my car will be red with a mat black nose and for the rest I did not decide yet.
Oh forgot I have a Datsun Z…

Anybody artistic ideas about it :?:

Datsun rally service truck

Postby Z-point » Wed Feb 07, 2007 9:40 pm

Find the diffrences. I asked a mate to do some gimmicks. What you think of it. Have to bring it back in period. With two big shinny Cibie's or Hella's up front

Nice, but you need to keep the ford badge, it's not a Datsun van....

I like the grill colour and the bumpers but NOT the bonnet, not my van but whenever you see a black bonnet you (well I do) think that the person simply hasn't got around to painting it yet....unless of course the whole vehicle is black.

That's a fair point mark M, and I have to agree with you. A black bonnet looks a bit unfinished.

If it wasn’t for a reason I absolutely agree with you both but there’s always a but……
You have to see this in prospective.. a link back to the rally seventies. All rally cars at that time drove with mat black bonnets. 8) Against the lowered sun, you know. As I said this will become my rally service van with, this (Z) behind it. It has to be a bit in line……………

It is not final, still in development stage. This is the first makeover.

Rally support

Postby Terry » Thu Feb 08, 2007 8:54 pm

Not mad keen on the lettering across the bonnet !, but matt black bonnet is fine.
You definitely NEED 4 Oscars across the Transit grille, and if its early 70's
you'll need a Helphos (they are now illegal here, don't know about Holland).
The usual term used for a service vehicle was a 'barge' (you'll know it from boats ! :)

Marshalled a stage near Venlo on this. Met both Bob de Jong (organiser) and Walter Rohl (winner).
I got a little black book with me poems in

Retro rallying

Postby Terry » Thu Feb 08, 2007 9:20 pm

No one said retro rallying was cheap :) .
Most of the 'must haves' are now 30/40/50 years old. so originals
are gonna be few & far between, with prices to match.

You know what they say...... :)

Where theres a will theres a relation :)
