another happy valley sunday?

Postby 93fxdl » Mon May 26, 2008 10:57 am

:D have been working my way through the mot fail sheet (just headlights to get now) and realised how being a mk 2 owner changes things
in the street you can hear the sounds of mowers chundering, in my garden its the compressor
strimmers wailing nope its the angle grinder
hedgecutters rattling no the impact wrench
sausages sizzling on the barbie no mig welder sizzling
the psst of tinnies being opened yahaay i got one
but seriously (ish) welding all done brakes cleaned up so just have to wait for the factor to open and get the lights and will be back to the test station then can get down to painting the cab and installing some upgrades
cd player, leccy windows, central locking and revesing sensors should get me started (maplins here i come) sorry still no pictures camera fubar

went out for a spin on the harley today and on the way back spied the factors was open so scooted in and ordered two headlamps (not a holiday in scotland) so then nipped into the paint shop and picked up a litre of thinners, paint and primer, fun thing shipping them home shoved down my jacket so my garden has today resounded to the sound of compressor, da and the pssst of the spray gun so now the front panel and the bonnet are resplendent in a fresh coat of diamond white (the bonnet is going to need doing again as the wind blew some crap over it also blew overspray onto the harley still it needs a polish anyway) also fired up the rattle can and blacked the grille, headlamp surrounds and the bumper so now from a little distance looks quite good from the front so anyway now its time for the pssst of a tinny

got a couple of piccys on my wifes mobile is there any simple way of posting them (has to be simple as puter tech is beyond me) if it dosent work hit it, if it still dosent work hit it harder, if this has no success use a bigger hammer if it breaks so what it was broken anyway

Hi there!

Can't wait to see work you have done.

Information about posting pictures can be found here:
viewtopic.php?f=29&t=2560

You will of course need a way of getting the pictures from the phone on to your computer!

Good luck! :D

:( two steps forward two steps back painted the nearside wing and lower door today and blew over the bonnet again well the bonnet didnt come out too bad but still not particularly happy with it (still a few rubbing marks and a drip of water fell on the wet paint leaving a fisheye) as for the wing some old filler i rubbed back has holes in it and needs rubbing back more to get it flat (seemed ok until got some shine on it) also the back of the arch and front of the door has reacted so will also have to be flatted and blown in again and the final straw  stepped outside and now there is a scratch down the door to be touched in as well but on a positive note got another rattle can to black in around the windscreen also i think will have to redo the bumper and headlight surrounds as brush marks from previous owners work are showing through but it is starting to look better (well less worse at least)
ps does anyone know the colour code for ci camper biege or is it pull a bit off and get it matched

sorry still no pictures but am trying to get something sorted but to be quite honest with the way things have finished today i am almost embarassed to let my kickups be seen

the top piccy shows the front? but if you look at the cab roof you can get some idea of what it looked like when i picked it up in the lower picyou can see the state of the door bottom (yes i did paint it in that codition but at the moment am going for a spruce up and mot fix will fit new skin later) and the condition of the trim around the body will try photo bucket again to see if i can get anymore horror pics uploaded

:D well the sun is shining and the compressor is chundering so some more paint going on (pics to follow)the new lights turned up yesterday so are now on but the pilot light holders are different so have a bit of wireing to do :( if anyone is interested or even if theyre not  im using a 2and a 1/2 compressor from aldi and a 12 pound spraygun from bonnypack (cheapo warehouse in glasgow) this is sort of my first bash at spraying  (spent 6 months painting buses but that was brush and roller and blasted a few fences with cuprinol and used to spray molten aluminium  but that is a totaly different ballgame) decided to get a bit more technical  with the spraying and put a filter regulator in the line and promptly got a rough finish and some major runs  but a bit of fiddling with the settings and away we go again still better get back and flat down the rough finish and runs then on with the topcoat :D and then some more pics (if photobucket will come out to play)
part two
well that is that for now have run out of paint so will get some more tomorrow but at least i only have the roof to rub and white then black the windscreen surround mirrors etc oh and wire up the side lights but the kids will be home soon so project has to stop
as for being a big project  it is tempting to sell the interior on fleabay put a flatbed on the chassis and use it to weigh in the ally body then go round collecting scrap ooops  not allowed to do that as how would we go on holiday :D
but anyhoo will try and get pics up
part three
now the paint is dry have been and given it the once over oh well not bad for a first attempt but still not good some places are a bit thin a few runs and a couple of places where it is a bit dull still if nothing else it has been a good learning experience and will be a good base to flat back and try and get a smooth shiny coat still i suppose with this much paint it should become pretty well bullet proof and as it rusts then i will be left with a body made from paint
ttfn glenn
feeling a little bit down but i will be back up again soon

You have done well taking on this one! I have never seen rust on a chassis cab roof before! All in all not too bad though, how is the chassis itself?
