cheers!! i thought i may as well do some extensions as i had problems with newer cars on the old truck that i built and that had a lower back end than this new one but the beaver tail was much steeper so if i could get cars on they'd drag on the beaver tail.. quite hard finding a happy medium..

wouldnt it have been better to have the bed higher behind the cab so the bed slopes toward the rear of the tuck
that way when you come up the ramps you dont drop off as much if you know what i mean

Top job mate I occasionally use a Transit at work, and it's brilliant for getting into tight wee streets but the ramps are a nightmare if loading anything with a spoiler. Good idea with the extensions. Truck looks great. Recover with pride mate.

the bed is raised at the front but not by a huge amount, i know what you mean though!! i wanted the bed fairly flat as i use the truck for picking up pallets and 600kilo bags etc its not just for cars.. i saw a transit the other day with the bed up above the rear window!!! i should think it was rather unstable with all the weight that high up!

Not to criticise but just a question,
Why the horizontal bars are not made out of a single piece acroos the width of the van, and just put over those 2 that are bolted to the chasis? This way you made them you are puting al the weight on the welding (though ist very good ), considering that the car tyre pressure would act on only a single bar at each corner. Or you will be using thick covering plate to distribute the weight, and make slanting supports to the ends.
If you know what I mean!

the angle on mine is very good

odd time just need 2 small bits of wood on the end of ramps to stop bumper hitting ramp but not very often trhe guys at vospers seem to have got this rite

any idea what the unladen weight of that will be ??? maybe should have used some alloy on it

think i will have to go for a mk 7 great work pal

i did my old truck like that, i know what you mean but it doesnt really make a lot of odds in terms of strength.. i'm going to use 4mm aluminium 5251 which is stronger than normal treadplate, i dont like treadplate.. plus i use the truck for everything no just cars so sheet better for pallets and bags etc. i used 3mm steel plate on the old truck... that was heeeeeaaaaavvvvvyyyyyy!

thanks! i used wood on my old truck but sometimes they'd still drag or hit. so i thought some extensions would be a better idea while building it and look a bit more pro! i'm using alloy on the deck, 4mm alum as opposed to 3mm steel will save 140kilos... however ali not as strong but the extra outriggers should cope with that..

unladen weight, i've no idea my old mk4 was 2250kg.. i guess this one will be 2100??? i'll weigh it when done.

i went for this mk7 for the air con and leccy windows....


'i'm having the body galvanized.. its away being done at the mo.. hopefully it'll come back with out any forklift damage...

Yes like this one I meant, but the new one looks more profesional
Nice idea about the alluminium plate, no more surface rust also

If I m not wrong , galvanizing is done in a hot bath, therfore better check for alligment and wrappage (heat effect of expanding or soemething)
