Mk5 slow progress report

Postby dirtydog » Fri Jun 11, 2010 11:15 pm

Thought I'd just post up a couple of pics of my smiley face 100 swb semi high roof TD

I bought the van in february for a fairly reasonable £770 it's an ex southern and scottish energy van with 140k showing on the clocks and a full service history up until 130k miles.
It has twin batteries and a few extra bits, old nokia hands free kit, roof beacons and flourescent lighting in the front and rear

It needed a couple of minor things doing to it.

Exhaust was rattling, was just a loose U bolt
Rear light was cracked, replaced with one from the scrappy
diesel flter had a bit of water in it, drained it out
other than that just needed a good clean

I don't want to go over the top with mods as it is a work van, the big mods will probably be next year when I get another to turn into a day van

List of things to be done (in no particular order)
replace the rear bottom corner as it's all crumpled in
Replace rear bumper with a safe-t-bar done
fit tow bar and electrics towbar fitted electrics still to be done
fit clear indicators
fit electric windows done also fitted tourneo door cards
fit electric mirrors done just need a relay for the heated part of them
tint the windows done
replace front bumper
fit fog lights done but will probably change them when the bumper is replaced
fit driving lights done
fit dvd player and new speakers half done, dvd and new door speakers fitted, going to fit some in the bulkhead to
alloy wheels still not sure if it's worth doing this might just get some wellers
fit a power inverter done but might change it later using a split charge relay and leisure battery
make some shelves in the back for tools etc again half done
mondeo/transit clocks with a rev counter bought some mondeo locks on ebay today

I'm also in the process of doing a few internal styling tweaks including changing the clocks backlighting, window swsitches, clock and switch illumination to red. Foot well lighting

i've not got any pics from when I first got the van but it was pretty ordinary looking.

fog lights on

fog and driving lights on
Image

all the switches will be like this...
Image
that's the only switch i've done so far as I could only get hold of a couple of the LEDs I needed

window switches will be like this...
Image
which I think is an improvement over the standard ones Image
again ive only done the passenger side switch so far as Maplin only had 1 of the LEDs in stock

i'll get some more pictures taken tomorrow if people want to see more of the van?

Thanks Andy, took me a few days and a couple of broken switches to decide what colours to do the switches :D
I blame AlanN for posting up pictures of his blue switches

A few more pics

LED side repeaters
Image

Tinted front windows
Image
they look really dark but as you can see in the next picture they're not really

Image

can also see the tourneo door cards, thye could do with a bit of a clean but ran out of carpet/upholstery cleaner after doing the drivers side just once much to the other halfs annoyance

7 inch touch screen dvd player, will be hooking up a reversing camera to it soon and have got a spare stereo surround so I can fibre glass it so the dvd player fits properly

Got some Mondeo clocks last week and plugged them in but they don/t work properly, rev counter does nothing and the fuel guage reads 3/4 of a tank when there's only 1/4. Not sure what do with them now, have seen on here I could get a new pcb for the back and they should then work. Any ideas?

Whilst I decide what to do about the speedo/rev counter I thought I'd have a fiddle with the standard ones, i'm aiming for everything thing to be backlit in red, have done the illumination for most of the switches (just waiting for the rest of my LEDs from maplins to be delivered) and have done the clock. Unfortunately they didn't quite turn out how I wanted...

Image

nowhere near bright enough :x but I have a plan to over come the problem!

Drivers side window switches, I used 3mm superbright red/orange LEDs from Maplin in these. Not the cheapest way of doing it at about £2 for each led and resistor

Image

Have also now got my split charge relay so just need to wire that in and find a decent leisure battery
