24v 2.9 V6 Cossie lump into a Mk3 190

Postby dipstick » Mon Oct 23, 2006 12:27 pm

I have finally got most of the 'hard' bits collected up, so i thought i would start the transplant ....

I have a 1998ish 24v BOB motor from a late model Scorpio and a 2.9 12v (c/w adapter plate and MT75) from a Police-spec transit.
The two engines are next to each oter on my drive, so i am currently transplanting things, flywheel, adapter plate, engine mounts from the 12v to the 24v motor. problems with oil returns from the cosworth heads, and remote filter housing have caused headaches.....but nothing that an angle grinder and some slicone can't fix... :)

if i can i will post some photos soon......

A BOB engine!

How are you getting around the PATS system? It wired into everything on a Scorpio, and thats the main reason why everybody fits aa BOA (earlier engine) its easyer to wire up.

But, good luck with the project, and watch the wear on the cam spockets!

:) when i got the BOB i did not realise that there were two types of Cossie 24v.....
However i am going to use a Megasquirt based system to drive the injectors and the VIS, and use the EDIS for the sparks...

... you live and learn.....

Cheers

ps how do i post piccies to the forum please?

You can run the BOB engine on the earlier loom and ECU.

Only thing it doesn't do is work the valve in the intake manifold, but theres ways around that.

... :) yes I did realise that , but i got the motor 'bare' , gas-axed out of the Scorpio, so no electrics, so rather than find an Scorpio ECU i thought i would get one off the shelf and have fun mapping it myself....

I have pulled the 2.5 di motor out of the Transit, with a Maglite and a crowbar...... Does anyone know if you can squeeze the motor and MT75 bolted together back in to the engine bay, or do you have to put the transmission in first and then offer up the motor... ?
cheers, Daryl
ps How do i post pics onto this forum?

still going ...

Postby dipstick » Sat Nov 04, 2006 6:30 pm

Today i put the adapter plate on the back of the 24v, i had to take off the manifolds, they get in the way of everything.... :(
How has anyone else got round the 'manifold' problems ..? :(

Anyway, connected up the engine crane and tried a first fit to get the Cossie lump into the engine bay......... How do you get the angle right on the motor to get it over the front 'sill' and yet low enough to clear the top of the transmission tunnel....where do you pick up on the motor...?

thanks if any of you can provide any answers....

Cheers :)

On mine i fitted the engine and box separate. Take out the slam panel and it will slide in level. then just drop it downand bolt it on.

try custom he got around the manifold

slam panel

Postby dipstick » Sat Nov 04, 2006 8:49 pm

Guy88,

do you mean the removeable front to the Transits, where the bonnet catch is? if this is the slam panel, then , yes, this is removed, but i find that when i back the motor into the engine bay it hits the bulkhead before the engine mounts line up with the chassis... :(

cheers

you will need to tip it back line it all up and bolt it in. if you use chain just shorten the front one bu a couple of links. or use a ratchet strap to lift it up

as i said in the other post. have you modded the bulkhead :?:
