MK6 SWB Cosworth YB Conversion!

rev counter wire is green

1st temp sensor woth 1 wire is for gauge on clocks, wire colour is brown with a white stripe

2nd temp sensor is cold start etc for ecu usually blue plug, wire colours are black wire with green stripe and brown with green stripe

must be different on this one cant find any of those wires

bit more done today

removed a load of LPG wiring, general tidying up done, mounted the wiring bracket and fitted the clutch

oh also welded the end of a mk4 transit pedal to the mk6 pedal allowing the sierra cable to be used needs a bit of adjusting as its only getting 3/4 throttle i'll sort it after north weald - got to give my van a chance

edit- wired in the altenator too

sort out fuel pipes - at the moment they go round the front of the engine bay
fit intercooler - gonna use the standard cossy one temp untill a custom one is made
finish off wireng (needs a lot of tidying up)
have a new pas pump hose made up to fit cossy pas pump
adapt starter so its held by more than 1 bolt
get exhaust made - planning on a full stainless system
refit front panels

Actually drove it today

fitted new copper fuel pipes
made a temprary hose for the pas so we could run it, and tidy'd up the wiring - still got a fair bit to do tho does anyone have a wiring diagram for the DOHC - theres a lot of wires im not sure what they are for

changed plans on the intercooler - gonna use a transit one now

but its all on schedule to be finished for next weekend

Today
change of plan on the intercooler - couldn't get a transit one cheep enough so fitted the sierra one the theory was it's only gonna be temprary till a custom one is fitted so the cost of a transit one might aswell go towards a custom one
just need to sort out the pipework now

also mounted the coil and did a bit more on tidying the wiring

other developments - it's booked in for a full stainless system this week

its not far off size wise but the hoses angle slightly differently

also forgot to mention we fitted the fan cowl off the petrol rad - just upside down - all it needed was a it cutting off that was in the way of the hose and clamping on 4 bolts and washers did the trick we'll replace it one day with a pukka fwd one

i'm intending wiring the fans on a switch for north weald as we've not got a sender in the pipework yet - something to sort out later

todays progress

getting close now actually bolting bits on for good - wings front panel etc are all on now wiring is tidy enough for now - not gonna short out - the full loom needs taping up and there's still a lot to cut out but i dont want to cut anything out im not sure we'll need so i'll get it road tested 1st

measured up for all the intercooler pipes and stu's getting them tomorrow - also a new pas hose so make a neat job of cosworth pump to transit rack

had a problem getting the servo to work - we tried a larger bore hose (8mm) and it seemed better but it really needs a road test

still waiting for the mondeo clocks for the temp gauge - should be here wed or thursday

spoke to the guy who's doing the exhaust today - he was supposed to ring us back to see if we could take the van up tomorrow but he didn't - so we'll give him a ring tomorrow

youve made some amazing progress with this conversion, cant wait too see it finished, yourself and stu are seriously talented.
just promise me one thing,
when its done and you can nail it down the strip, we can all see it on you tube!!

The 1st guy who was doing us the exhaust didn't ring back again today - 2 days in a row so you snooze you loose can't risk it being sat there waiting for bits etc. so it's now booked in to http://www.exhaustsuk.com in sheffield this friday

so today we dont really have any work to do on it

the only jobs to do are
the fans need wiring up - i was thinking of just fitting a switch on the coil side of the existing relay (where ever it is????) and using the wires allready there
The starter still needs modding - but its not gonna stop us getting there

*excuse no.1 - this van (and mine) are both standard and havent had ANY tuning done yet so if we get wasted by nitroman's diesel thats why - and we'll be back next year with a few more HP
