I still havent got the new panel into the other side, so I can take some measurements of the holes if you want tomorrow AM (but then I am away all week) but im sure the holes are cut more or less exactly on the join where the inner and outer panels meet.

Did you try putting the window into the rubber, put a piece of string in where the metalwork would go, line up one corner and pull the rubber out using the string from the inside?

You should also be able to do something similar with the rubber fitted to the van to get the window into the rubber. The windows came out of the rubber easier than the window and rubber together came out of the van

Thanks Matt, we have tried all of the above    Excruciating five hours of various attempts to get the window in before we gave up as the hole really isn't big enough. You wouldn't say by the look of it, but the hole in my bus is cut in un-even way, so at some spots the hole is just right, but there are places where it's about 2mm smaller than it should be. Fun day, I'm sure Muttley is cursing me now  ... Five hours with your arms in the air in burning sun.... Also the rust didn't make it easier, will see what can be done about that. But I'm optimistic, it doesn't need much to make it fit, only the angle grinder noise would have been a problem, so we'll be fighting it later... It also turned out to have different pillars on mine (or in different angle - curve) as the pillar was getting in a way of the glass in the middle, but my big hammer sorted that out...  As I said - all my favourite tools were used today, so it was fun. ...for me...

Ha ha, fun :? I could think of better things to do on a hot sunday  Yes the hole is deffo too small for the window frame, at one point the frame was 2/3 of the way in and you could see there was no gap left at the bottom of the hole :(

I know you do have better things to do  That's why I'm so grateful to you and your lovely wife for putting up with me   But think of it this way - if you ever get bored, I can always come up with an idea how to kill the time

Thank you Scaniaman, I'm glad you enjoyed it  It's always easier to write about it that actually do it though.

For believers and non believers - here is second serious attempt to get the windows in. I have enlarged the hole for about 2mm at places where it seemed too small and used my new magic wand to get the window in. I'm liking it already 8)

Now it still is a bit tight at places, I would be unable to put the locking piece of rubber in there...

I'd think this is probably too tight here :?

You are looking at the window itself next (or on top of) the lip. So back to cutting... Let's just hope I won't make it into cabriolet soon...

Don't worry that's not going to be any time soon... IF I manage to get it from "just-came-back-from-war" look to "ok" look by the end of month I'll be happy. But then there is still whole interior and loads of bits I already thought of doing afterwards  Must have gone mad... The key to being happy with the way it is now is the self assurance that I really can't make it any worse at this point   Also - I'm very stubborn, if something doesn't go as planned it just makes me go nuts and I bang my head right against the wall until I figure out how to get what I want... I've just attempted to get the window in for the third time and the hole is still small... I didn't want to admit it until I almost poked my eye out with a scewdriver trying to get the rubber where it should be. So I'm officially giving up for today, but I've got an idea how to make this window fitting thing woman friendly    Thanks for reading my thread, I'll try and keep it going...

Trust me, I've considered that option yesterday as a solution how to get me out of my misery... I'll have another go today, have got an idea how it might be just a bit easier.

Funny how life with Transit can go... when I finally fitted my window today, I was sooo happy! Felt like I am a step closer to achieving what I want... And yet - just couple of moments later, I am sitting in the same Transit in small side road with oil pouring out of it and I wonder if there IS something else that can possibly go wrong for me... I just can't believe my luck. RAC should be here in about an hour. My gut tells me this is serious. Just great! :(

:( :( :( Welll... that's it! Lola has passed away.   I still can't believe it. Nice RAC men came to the rescue, two of them if fact (and yes - one in MK7) but there was nothing they could do. She is dead. It all ends before it even started

No no no!

Come on Nadjenka - we're not having that - what's up with her? Nothing that can't be fixed I'm sure. Get a grip of that fighting spirit and let's be sorting her out - you've done far too much to give up now, and by what we've seen so far - giving up really isn't your style. Don't make me start a poll or something to get you to carry on!

What's the verdict from the men in the orange vans then?

As long as the body/chassis of the Transit is ok she'll go again cos everything else is an easy swop from a donor van.

If the engine has self destructed (rare) an engine swop is easily done in a day. And probably a lot less hassle than getting those windows to eventually fit in your van.

Dont give in just yet....
