Well the day of reckoning arrives... Today will be the test of new switchable pas pump and weather or not carb adjustment made a difference!

Robbie i'll donate the slitting discs to cut your window aperture but wont get to billing till about lunchtime tomorrow

So it turns out my running issues seem to be ignition related...

Got on A127 on friday and basically lost 1 or 2 cylinders, all the way up to Billing...4 hours due to traffic but kept moving so wasnt too bad!

Sunday evening, myself n Paul (mattblackminibus) cut out over an inch of ht lead at coil end right by plug...

Said off cut was completely hollow, ie no conductor! was only visible with the boot pulled right back too

So I botched it with a piece of earth copper from twin and earth (30A) and it seemed to instantly run better, on all 6!

With thst in mind, these so called uprated Accuspark leads seem like overpriced shyte!

Dizzy cap still looks brand new, barely any pitting what so ever...Rotor looks fine too,no burning.

I got a spare OEM rotor arm i will try, and a new set of OEM leads... if that dont work me get big hammer!

just sorting out some long awaited pix, wee man finally dropping off for his morning nap at 1207 lol ...

forgot to mention was ok at low rpm but misfiring still there and more apparent at motorway speeds... ran better but still not right on way home, and at one point, ran on all 6 , full power no problem for a few miles...then backed off again. seems to be related to inclines ! new leads here i come!

Don't forget that at higher rpm the coil draws more current, so double check all your feeds to that. HT leads normally work other way round, bad leads are bad at low rpm and better at high rpm, mainly as a weak spark works better at high engine speed. That's what I start with when fault finding. Main issues are usually the ballast wire, this is bypassed when starting as the cranking voltage is low, so the coil isn't rated to run at the full 13.8v running level. when started and running it goes through a wire with slight resistance to drop the voltage to try and keep it similar to cranking levels. If you change anything in the loom or distributor then you need to allow for this, even electronic ign units can suffer from ballast voltages.

Are you sure distributor suits engine compression and cam your running?

years ago had Bedford HA1300 van, knackered dissy, play in cam,couldn't set points right...
Dad got good dissy off viva 1300. put on, got about 20 mile down M1 running terrible...put bad one back, away i went...power back.

Never fiddled but concluded dissy for high comp car was totally wrong advance curve for low comp van and whatever they did to cam in commercial...

really hope new leads sort it...

Same with A series, high cams seemed to run better with no vacuum advance.

Cheers fellas, its a KCV6GT cam, and a sports coil that has no ballast resistor...
It all started when I hooked a fast right off a127 onto m25 on way to north weald!
Was fine for a year before, obviously had loads of other issues, but still went like stink even with retarded timing!
Inclines seem to make a difference so I bet other leads are cack too!

Incline means more throttle on same revs, so may be vacuum related, unless one of your wobbly ancillaries are causing "issues"

Once I get it running right ill try blocking vac pipe to see if it makes difference.

New leads arrived yesterday. Fitted last night, test drive Sunday methinks ! Sadly just off to work now...

Not yet test driven but sharper/snappier on throttle so looks promising!


Was well impressed with the new leads despite being red, come with long and short lead for coil to dizzy AND even two of those plastic clips to hold ht leads together!

Test drive will decide if back to running on all six or not but looks promising!
