You need a can of Grip4 to help the paint adhere properly, then depending on how smooth you want the finish (smoother finish=more sanding) you need several layers of primer/filler, then a couple of top coats (twin pack or celly)

Rover.

Something like this Kev?
HERE
Thanks everyone for your tips, Im going to prep and prime it myself and get it painted local and then bolt the two peices together with stainless fixings. Ive still got to sort out the the lamps and how to mount them to the bumper as yet, maybe cut some out of another vehicle and weld/mould them in...

A friend of mine told of a motor shop that sell the full range of U-Pol products including grip 4 and its only about 15/20 minutes away, so Im going to pop in there on the way home tonight to see if its cheaper than eBay.

Thats the stuff you really need, its what a lot of the body shops around here use so it must be good stuff, its also what I used to when I did mine....

Beware though...Supermarket trolleys still take the paint off    Cant tell you what happened to the 'youf' that shoved the trolley into my front bumper but he WILL think twice before doing it to anyone else

After last nights earthquake, I thought Id better get a move on with the prep. I couldnt get the grip 4 stuff, but I was a bit eager to get on I so brought another brand, Carplan £6.99. Seems ok, a very thin clear spray, but I'll have to wait until it gets chipped  Flatted the whole thing down first with 800 grit, just to give a matt finish and then sprayed over a couple of layers. In primer now and I have spent last couple of evenings flatting it down nice and smooth, just filling in the nicks and scuffs with filler spray. Going to drill some holes later and offer it up again, hope I like it :|

Nice :D

Always wanted to do it to my own van but I have to get up way too many high curbs for it to be practical :(

Just ran outside and propped up the spoiler, still needs a bit of work on the ends, the angle still isnt right... Not too sure about the depth either, is it too low? :|
I think it will help once its got a few bolts in and I can check all the angles, then I can remove the whole thing for painting.
Just a matter of finding the fog/spots with mounts now.

Not done much to the bumper during the week, as I havent got a torque bit big enough to take the bumber off, so ive just been nosing through tyres on ebay just to see whats about.
How about these Bridgestones? Cant find any 205s or 215 Bridgestones though to go on the rear... The only other thing I noticed, is that they are a 80 profile!

Well, I couldnt sit at home and do nothing until I had the right tools to do the bumper, so on to something else.
Ive had the amplifier sitting on the table for a while and the sub arrived this week. An off-cut of 3/4 MDF from the local shop to make the baffle board, 50 pence I ask you. I started by removing the carpet from the end of the seat box and cleaning off all the foam backing left behind.
Image Image
The baffle board was cut to size; the corners where rounded off at both ends for the carpet to fit round and then the holes where cut in both panels using a jigsaw.
The whole lot was then bonded and screwed together from both sides, but I didnt have any spare carpet to recover it, so Ive had to reuse the old bit for the time being.

I finally mounted the speaker along with the amp which is inside the box and I'll get around to the wiring tomorrow, thats the big job. Not looking forward to removing the roof panels just to run the RCA cables through and just top that off, my mate has just brought around a set of torque bits to do the front bumper tomorrow.

hey up,
i got competition

nice sub alan,
you running this boxed behind the sub??

if so,

you may need to 'port' the box you create
again if so - lemme know as i have some of the pukka port tubes sat right here doing nowt,
(also come in handy as can holders) as they have a sturdy plastic mesh in them,

At the moment I havent boxed off the area, but it sounds the muts nuts... Upset all the neighbours... Waiting for some more speakers to come, but Im going to have to pull the roof section down to get to the cables and run the rca cables, so Im back to the front bumper again.
Im going to have ask for advice again when I do box it off, about size, angle, vent etc.
