A friend of lukes has got a complete v6 cougar that hes breaking and has kindly agreed to let me have the ecu/loom in exchange for removing the engine/box for him as it should be easier to thin/run in the van than the jag loom.

Gonna be trying this before I go for megasquirt etc as its basically the same engine as the cougar/mondeo and like you said before it should at least get me up and running.

Would like to get the welding finnished before the engine goes in anyway as there is some to be done in the engine bay

I'd keep it ford ecu where possible. . If you wanted later could upgrade to mega squirt but get it running first.
Plenty of info regarding pin outside of ecu. Think euro 5 ecu or pcm as now called eec v has 104 pins where as the older eec iv ones are 60 pin. The extra 46 pins in newer ones are related to the extra emission control shyte

Yeh im fairly confident in the cougar wiring is simpler than the jag ecus/loom, and I'm fairly sure that the cougar is very simular if not identical to the mondeo
The only thing the cougar/mondeo ecu is missing is and output for the vvt.
That said it does have an output for the imrc (secondary throtle) that comes in at around 3400rpm so could splice into that to bring the vvt in :?
Will just have to see when we dig the ecu/loom out of the cougar

Not done anything on the van in the evenings this week but been having an hour each morning on the rear seats, frame built and seats mounted, just got to sort the belts and best option when they are in the van.
Also got the tyres removed from the new modular wheels so now need to refurb those to!!..........when will it end!! :(

Defo keep alternator up as high s poss simply for replacement reason... mine would require whole front bumper and slam panel removes and rad just to get access to replace alternator...
Fk that!
if you can decide keep that as accessible as poss is my only advice re belts

Update time, got the jag engine in the engine bay tonight not bolted in or anything just sat in there chocked up so that I can get an of space etc and to start making up some engine/gearbox mounts.

The jag inlet is gonna be ditched for the v6 mondeo/cougar inlet as I think the jag 1 will be too tall and also theres valves and secondary throtles etc that the cougar loom wony be able to run.

At first mock up it looks like the standard manifolds will clear the bulkhead but we'll see once its leveled up properly etc

Anyway a few pics for you as usual :D

Re vvt output... I have a similar obstacle to overcome...
Yours is vvt triggering ...
Mine is operation of the viz (inlet doobery to lengthen or shorten intake distance all techy bullshit)
My viz thing needs to activate at 3200 rpm so I need a trigger to switch vac solenoid at said rpm...
Reading up on cossie Conversions on www found people using "rpm window switch"
Which basically switches so.ething on or off at a given rpm....
Wires into either tach output from ecu or from rpm pulses from the alternator.....

May be worth a look

Msd ones are about 90 quid on fleabay

yeh I'll look into it, thanks robbie, I was hoping to splice into the signal for the imrc ("inlet manifold runner control" or seconary throtles) these come in at around 3400rpm, in the jag ecu they are a variable depending on the engine load etc but having researched it ive found a guy on a lotus forum who has this engine conversion and runs it on ms using a programable output to trigger the vvt (obv on/off and thats it, no variables like on jag) and his works a treat but thanks for the heads up its deffo food for thought!

pat stevens wrote:that sits in the engine bay nice.had to remove a lot of bulkhead to fit mine

Yeh its not a bad fit, not in its final place yet (infact its back out at the mo  )
The headers are a little close to the bulkhead but we'll have to wait and see how close when shes in the final resting place :D
