I am thinking it has sat in the damp. might try starting it in gear again with the pedal wedged down but will need some pushers as the starter does not have enough power to shift the van with the binding brakes.

Its difficult to do but I have had some succsess by bump starting then driving along with the clutch depressed and jumping on and off the accelerator It worked for me

Some progress at last!
Now its a long weekend i have decided to do some work,
Yesterday i removed the front end and lifted the engine out giving me a chance to look deeper into the rust which is not that bad . Now I'm able to look at the bulkhead its not as bad as i thought. Big issue is the front valence and the member behind it.
With the engine in the hoist i could finally get at the clutch which needed some taps with a hammer while leavering the pressure plate off then dropping the pressure plate on the floor from about a foot up, to jar the friction disk off. All the parts look good but will replace the spigot bearing.
I then got a phone call saying the MIG welder i was borrowing was available, so went and collected that and had a quick welding lesson, as its been 10 years since i MIG welded.
Maybe going to the Bristol show/autojumble tomorrow so be looking for goodies need a 6 branch exhaust. . . .

After the engine sitting in the corner of the build room for a week i have lifted the heads off for a look inside. All looks quite nice in there one of the cyl's was a bit damp and dark but nothing nasty. Have rebuilt one of the heads already the valves, guides and seats look good. hopefully knock the sump off for a look at the bottom end soon.
Just waiting for some power points to arrive so i can plug the welding plant in and get on with the important bits

Picked up 2 doors and a good wing yesterday. Lucky to find them locally too. The garage selling them had a very smart LWB panel van that they had used for the last 37 years.
One door needs a minor repair to the lower skin and the other is fine. The wing is very good just needing the headlight bowl repairing.
I now have the engine partually stripped, It has been rebuilt at somepoint in the past as the manifold does not match the heads and the con-rods are factory numbered but not in the right cyls. one of rocker adjusters is very worn and the cam and followers are shot. I have a new cam and followers on sale or return depending on the rest of the engine. It will need a set of rings. The only bearing i have looked at is in very good condition so hoping it wont cost a lot to get sorted and running well.

Stripped a little more of the engine last night. Found a broken piston ring but the bore has no marks. Was feeling pretty pleased with it until i found it was a short stroke 2.5ltr unit. . .There are a few 3ltr on the bay all i need is the crank and pistons but will prob get a whole engine as i want flat heads too.

dont here of many 2.5ltr anymore ,the porblem they looked the same as the 3ltr,same as the 1.7v4 and 2ltr

The blocks are the same so can be pot luck what you end up with. What was the 2.5 used in? as its in reasonable condition i might recon the bottom end and list it on the bay to finance the rest of the build
